I know plenty of people who come from broken homes. Which is a phrase I don't care for. They all have had as much or more success in their lives than myself.
I would bet that the parents who suck as single parents would be just as shitty as a couple. If you're a bad parent there's no way around that, you just are.

What does a child get out of having parents who are in a loveless marriage? What benefit is there? I agree that a loving relationship with parents is preferred, but I disagree with the premise that single parents are the most damaging thing to American Society.

Hulk ,

Statistically that's not the case. Glad things worked out for you and your bro.

"Entertainment Tonight" celebrity type news gossip and it isn't even close. The collective mass of people that watch this are unintelligent and reproduce at a high rate.

I can't understand the glorification of athletes who father kid and aren't married to the mothers. Yes that includes big shots and college athletes close to home. What happened to getting first and then having kids?

Listening to Neil Diamond and Barbra Streisand's faux Christmas albums. It's the same concept as the Pope leading prayers at the Grand Mosque in Mecca.

Mostly because it takes 2 parents to do a decent job raising a kid. Non Custodial parents are much less likely to be able to fully participate in the parenting process. Not saying you can't raise a kid properly in a single/ divorced parent household but it is much more difficult.

I read all the responses. Most refer to instances in which the responder has had personal experience.
But I think that the media glorification of lack of responsibility for our actions is the most damaging thing out there. Everyone sees the problems on TV solved in no more than an hour, talking heads make every problem seem to be like a disease, and not caused by poor choices. Kids grow up with the idea that they can do dumb things with no consequences. Sometimes a divorce is a good thing for all, often it causes a new set of problems. Parents often get into a tug of war over the kids and over money, normally with negative results. Every bad choice made usually takes a difficult good choice to fix, and we just don't want to pay the price it will take to make it right. Just the view of an ex divorce lawyer.

In terms of damage to society........

#1

Spouses who suddenly decide they don't want to be married and abandon their families. Especially when it's the husband and breadwinner who leaves. The devestation [and betrayal] is particularly heartbreaking if the wife is a stay-at-home mom [yes - there are a few left].

#2

No fault divorce laws. Moral relativism run amok. Laws are stacked against the stay-at-home mom.

#3

Militant feminism. Depicted motherhood as slavery to men and destroyed motherhood as a noble profession. Less than 13% of households in America are traditional families [father is the breadwinner, mom stays home to care for kids]

#4

Birth Control Pill. Reduced the sacred procreative act to that of an animalistic exploitive act. Gave rise to genocide and infanticide. Ever hear of Kermit Gosnell?

I'll stop here. There is plenty blame to go around. Bottom line...birth rates are declining [sharply] in western countries [1.45/1] while it's exploding in islamic populations [8/1], including those islamic communities in the United States.

You do the math.
