What’s it like to live in Chalmette?
Life is hard, hard hard in St Bernard. I have a lot of customers from Da Parish and they're all great people.

This isn't a thread about Boston.

have you not met anyone from Southwest Louisiana?
The Jersey shore accent is the only one I know that rivals Chalmette for grossness.

I know plenty of LC folks, never had an issue communicating with any of them though.
Internet infamous divorce lawyers notwithstanding.

Pre Katrina it was definitely one of the most unique places in the U.S. imo.
Very Jersey Shore douche vibe in a lot of ways. Lots of juiced up dudes with gelled hair, trashy tattoos, etc. The chicks were honestly pretty hot but trashy.
This is spot on. When Jersey Shore first came out on MTV in ~2010 or so, my first reaction was, "wow, they are just like people from da Parish."

I lived there before Katrina and had no issues with it. 15 minutes to the west and you were in the French Quarter, 15 minutes “down the road” and you were launching your boat in some of the best fisheries in the world. It was low crime and had a familial feel to it. It’s completely different now though.
Completely agree. Actually was pretty great to grow up there. Moved alot but ended up mostly in Lexington. Never locked our doors. Always felt very safe and had a sense of community. Not at all like that anymore.

Rocky and Carlo's alone is an overwhelming reason to live there.
I remember prior to Katrina, you could not pry people who grew up in Arabi or Chalmette away.....they loved it. Everybody knew everybody else and the park rivalries were cool too. Val Reiss, Versailles, Carolyn Park and you only either went to Chalmette high or Holy Cross if you were a guy. Girls went to AJ, Holy Angels or Dominican. Great people in Arabi and Chalmette.

Started in Poydras ( which most people don't know exists)
Then Violet
Then Meraux
Finally to Chalmette

Dudes from Chalmette owned Panama City Spring Break in the 90s. And many of the Club Lavela Bikini Contest winners were from Down the Road too.
Like I said, it was douchiness to the highest degree. I knew a dude who had a tattoo of the RalphLauren Polo Horse on his chest where it would be if you were wearing a polo lol.
Dude was swimming in arse.

Every once and a while a refinery goes boom, and the locals hate progress when the port decides to build a new cargo terminal.
I have a few cousins that have relocated to there from south Plaquemines.

Dude, brah, if you had a bad meal at Rocky and Carlo's call and ask to speak to Rocco personally. You WILL NOT get a second bad meal. Find it hard to believe that you had a first bad meal.

My grandfather had a good friend who lived in Poydras on a "family compound" with horses, etc. We used to go down there periodically and hang with them. His grandchildren would get a kick out of my accent that I had at the time because I still had traces of the New Zealand brogue accent really until I went to high school in around 1981 -82. But those were great people.....do anything for you. Don't cross them, though, because if you do, you WILL know what an enemy is.

Chalmette vs Belle Chase? You gotta live in one or the other.
