re: What's considered "low mileage" for a Toyota?

You can make 150k work, but I would look for around 100k if possible. I think with a 4Runner you can reasonably expect to get 150k out of it with "relatively" no problems. I think for a first car if you can get it around 100k you can reasonably expect it to last long enough until you are ready to upgrade her vehicle.

Bought a Taco with just over 100k. Feels brand new.

Average miles per year for American drivers is 15-18k miles per year, so just take the age of vehicle, multiply by the average annual mileage above, and that will determine high or low miles. Value wise, most value publications (NADA, KBB, etc) use 12-15k annual miles. A properly maintained Toyota, using the manufacturer's guidelines, will last 200-300k miles, but so will a Chevy. They will all break, or will wear out parts, but most foreign make OEM parts are considerably more expensive than domestic makes. If it has a timing belt, vs. timing chain, those are more prone to breakage, and should be changed as recommended. Toyota did previously have a huge advantage over domestics in quality, but not have same for the last 20 or so years. When buying preowned vehicles, books & service records are best to have. I have 25yrs in the car biz, and can tell you a properly maintained 150k mile vehicle will be infinitely better than a 75k mile improperly maintained vehicle, regardless of manufacturer.

Looking for a used 4Runner for my daughter and I know that Toyotas will run until the wheels fall off assuming you stay on top of maintenance. I'm looking at some that have mileage in the 150K range. That's still low for a Toyota right?
We've got a 2004 that I bought my daughters back when they were in college ... we kept it once they all graduated and passed it down to their much younger little brother four years ago. It has 318,000 miles on it now and is still running strong.
Still looks good too.

If maintenance is up to date, you're good to go at 150k.

150k, it's just getting broken in. As long as the car was taken care of mileage shouldn't scare you. Just baseline it when you buy it... new coolant, brakes, oil change, trans fluid
I bought a Land Cruiser with 245k and now it's got 300k and running fine

OP is talking about a vehicle for a dependent.

I'd have no issue putting that many miles on a vehicle. I'd maybe have an issue purchasing a vehicle with that many miles though, especially for my daughter. Toyota may be good to go at those miles when treated right, but you never know what the previous owner was doing to the vehicle for 150k miles.

Is carfax report pretty reliable? A lot of the online car sites (Carguru, cars.com, etc..) will have a linked report with service records. In relatively the same boat as OP except shopping for one in 50-100k miles for myself.

Ya as long as the owner kept up the maintenance regularly. If not you won't get more than a couple years but if so, that thing can still run for 100,000 + miles.
Bought a Toyota with 115,000 on it two years ago and it still runs great.

Just gave one to my daughter, a '98 with about 170k miles. Still running, never a problem.

So many variables besides mileage to consider. Has it been maintained, wrecked, parked outside? How many owners has it had? Who was the primary driver?
I would get a Carfax and a prepurchase inspection by a certified brand specific mechanic before spending more than $2000 on any vehicle.

130k on my 09 4Runner 4x4 sport. Have had to change the brake pads once. I think the battery is about to go but it has lasted 8 years so no complaints. Was never a huge fan of Toyota before but my next vehicle will be a Toyota.

I just bought a 05 corolla with 194k miles. Ran it thru Toyota shop, checked out good (just needed tune up, gasket, and recharge freon), and plan to go easily another 100k miles.
At my dealership, we take in tons of Toyotas with 200-300k, still running

My '07 Prerunner Tacoma TRD just hit 47,000 last week.
I have a company vehicle so it literally just sits in the driveway most of the time. I will be parting ways with it next year to get the oldest a vehicle.
I am hoping to get around 18k for it in trade in or private seller.
