What's considered "low mileage" for a Toyota?

Looking for a used 4Runner for my daughter and I know that Toyotas will run until the wheels fall off assuming you stay on top of maintenance.
I'm looking at some that have mileage in the 150K range.
That's still low for a Toyota right?

I've bought both my previous runners at 150k

I put 160k hard miles on my old 4Runner and it was still running like new at that point.

150k, you should be alright.
BTW, why are you encouraging her to become the schools backseat bandit?

I don't think 150k is "low" for anything... but if maintained properly it'll keep going for 150k more.
ETA: My Mom has a Toyota Highlander that's getting close to 300k and still going strong.

Right, it certainly depends on the vehicle.

150k is a lot of miles for any vehicle. If you buy a vehicle with that many miles, the engine is likely good, but a lot of little things start needing attention.

I'd have no problem buying a Toyota or Honda anywhere under about 125,000. Above that, and who know what kind of maintenance the previous owner was doing. The body will wear out before the engine.

That's for every vehicle not named Toyota or Honda. Every Toyota that's been in my family has easily gone over 200k with no issues at all and usually start having AC problems around 250k. Every once in a while you may see one with minor issues earlier but usualy they run damn strong. Most other brands I expect to see minor issues at about 100k.

I love Toyota and I put 300+ on my first, an 83 pickup (Man I loved that truck). My dad has put over 300 on two different Camrys and he's got about 150 on his third.
All that being said, I don't think I would ever buy a used vehicle with more than 30k on it, maybe 50k for a Toyota.
Like someone else said, even if the engine is fine at 150, there's other little things that are bound to be a problem.
But since it's for your daughter, and I'm assuming it's her first car, I'd say 150 isn't terrible. Being a female, she's not going to maintain it, not wash it, and will probably wreck it. So don't invest a ton of money on it. A 4 Runner with 150k miles is the perfect "training bra" of a vehicle for her.

My tacoma is approaching 90K and it's still going strong.
Only issues I've had have been very minor ones (a couple recalls, broken latch on center console, had to replace headlights, get a new battery).

150K would still be considered low mileage for a Toyota.

Same for every other car that isn't a Fiat, Chrysler, Mitsubishi, or Audi. 50-70K under normal circumstances. Up to 85K if it has all records and no body work. That's taking into account that nearly all manufacturers are screwing together cars much better these days.
No one other than people that pledge allegiance to Toyota will say 150K is "low mileage" even for a 4Runner. At that point you'll see interior plastics crack, you'll need front axle work, possibly even fading paint, etc.

This is a false perception. My family has owned a lot of Honda's. They literally fall apart around the motor. My last civic had two clutch replacements before 100k miles, AC died, headliner fell apart, major paint issues, door wiring failure, and bad knock sensor.

I have a 2001 Highlander with around 400k. Still runs perfectly.

I have three Lexus/Toyota vehicles with 400k mikes between them. Still running well.
