Sometimes I think it's a shame
When I get feeling better when I'm feeling no pain
Sundown, you better take care
If I find you been creeping 'round my back stairs

These shabby shoes I’m wearin’ all the time
Is full of holes and nails.
And brother, if I stepped on a worn out dime,
I bet a nickel I could tell you if it was heads or tails

Ezra:
For everyone, yeah
There's a person, place or time
That brings you back and makes you feel alive
Before your reason clouds your eyes
When you could rule the world
If you wanted to, yeah
For everyone, yeah
There's a person, place or time
That brings you back and makes you feel alive
Before your reason clouds your eyes
When you could rule the world
If you wanted to, yeah

Dead Flag Blues

The car's on fire and there's no driver at the wheel
And the sewers are all muddied with a thousand lonely suicides
And a dark wind blows

Danny Schmidt’s Stained Glass gets me every time. The whole song has a fantastic story from beginning to end, so everyone should read the full lyrics HERE.
But the one line that always gets me the most...
But still, every time I hear that line, I immediately get a crystal clear picture in my head of distant-future me sitting back in my rocker, watching my grandkids playing on the floor, and just being absolutely overwhelmed with contentment and satisfaction at a life successfully lived.
But the one line that always gets me the most...
quote:The line itself doesn’t do full justice to the impact of hearing it, since the line’s place within the broader story is a big component of what makes it impactful to me.
And the prideful immortality of children in the home
But still, every time I hear that line, I immediately get a crystal clear picture in my head of distant-future me sitting back in my rocker, watching my grandkids playing on the floor, and just being absolutely overwhelmed with contentment and satisfaction at a life successfully lived.

People say I'm no good and crazy as a loon
'Cause I get stoned in the morning
And get drunk in the afternoon
Kinda like my old blue tick hound
I like to lay around in the shade
And I ain't got no money but I damn sure got it made
'Cause I ain't asking nobody for nothin'
If I cant get it on my own
If you don't like the way I'm livin'
You just leave this long-haired country boy alone
- Charlie Daniels

Mike D from "Pass The Mic"
Fun fact.. the 2nd "commercial" was supposed to be "rehearsal" but Mike fricked up the delivery and it got left in as a joke at his expense.
quote:
Well everybody rapping like it's a commercial
Actin' like life is a big commercial
So this is what I’ve got to say to you all
Be true to yourself and you will never fall

Stressed Out - TOP
quote:
Used to play pretend
Give each other different names
We would build a rocket ship
And then we'd fly it far away
Used to dream of outer space
But now they're laughing at our face singing
"Wake up, you need to make money", yeah

Copper Canteen (James McMurtry)
woke up last night in the grip of a fright scared to breathe for I might make a noise
This life that we craved so little we saved between the grandparents graves and the grandchildren's toys
We grew up hard and our children don't know what that means
We turned into our parents before we were out of our teens
Through a series of Chevys and Fords
The occasional spin round the floor at the Copper Canteen
Childish Things (James McMurtry)
Now my boy goes like a house on fire
He'll never burn out and he'll never retire
And I remember when I used to think like that
When I was young and the world was flat
But I'm forty some years old now and man I don't care
All I want now is just a comfortable chair
Hello In There (John Prine)
We had an apartment in the city
And me and Loretta liked living there
Well it'd been years since the kids had grown
A life of their own, and left us alone
John and Linda live in Omaha
And Joe is somewhere on the road
And we lost Davy in the Korean war
And I still don't know what for, it don't matter anymore
Donald And Lydia (John Prine)
Bunk beds, shaved heads, Saturday night
A warehouse of strangers with sixty watt lights
Staring through the ceiling, just wanting to be
Lay one of too many, a young PFC
Donald
There were spaces between Donald and whatever he said
Strangers had forced him to live in his head
He envisioned the details of romantic scenes
After midnight in the stillness of the barracks latrine
woke up last night in the grip of a fright scared to breathe for I might make a noise
This life that we craved so little we saved between the grandparents graves and the grandchildren's toys
We grew up hard and our children don't know what that means

I fully understand this is going to sound stupid, but on the No Love cover by Lil' Wayne and Eminem, Wayne says "Be good or be good at it." If you're really good at something, people will put up with you lacking in other areas.

Even when winnings illogical losing still far from optional
TI
Eminem has a bunch, but I’ll just post the verse from beautiful pain:
You're so familiarized
With what having to swallow this pill is like
It happens all the time, they take your heart and steal your life
And it's as though you feel you've died
'Cause you've been killed inside
But yet you're still alive
Which means you will survive
Although today you may weep 'cause you're weak and
Everything seems so bleak and
Hopeless, the light that you're seekin'
It begins to seep in, that's the only thing keepin'
You from leapin' off the mothafreakin' deep end
And I'm pullin' for you to push through this feeling
And with a little time that should do the healing
And by tomorrow, you may even feel so good that you're willing
To forgive 'em, even after all the shite you been put through
This feeling of resilience is building
And the flames are burnin' quick as fire would through this building
You're sealed in, but you're fireproof
Flame retardant, you withstood it
And as you climb up to the roof, you're just chillin'
You look down, 'cause you're so over 'em you could put the heel of your foot through the ceiling

I wish that for just one time you could stand inside my shoes
And just for that one moment I could be you
Yes, I wish that for just one time you could stand inside my shoes
You'd know what a drag it is to see you
