Get the kid a dog, something medium sized that he can handle.

Thats such a lie.

I've never understood why someone would want a pet snake.

Just get a dog that the whole family can enjoy

I’d get a dog but our dog now is 15 years old. Don’t know how she’d take to a puppy annoying her. I feel like I almost owe it to her to wait

Back in high school my ball python used to leverage it's way up the side of the aquarium, open the lid and get out. Moms would have to beep me and tell me to get my arse home once I finally got to a payphone.

Don't get a puppy go to the SPCA and get a 2/3 year old, that is already house broken. By the time your son is ready to leave for college, your newest dog would be the same age as your current dog.

No on the hedgehog. They make a mess and aren’t very cuddly. My daughter has one. Try a bearded dragon. You can handle them and your son can learn about how to care for them.

Get him a turtle or a lizard. I had a box turtle as a a kid and loved digging up worms for him.

Make him set up a coon trap and see if he can handle it.

Lady I work with got a pet tortoise. Thing is pretty damn cool actually and not much maintenance. They live forever so your kid can hand it down to his kid. Hell, it might even make it down to your son’s grandson.
