re: What's a company or product that really turned itself around by "rebranding"?

Fender was getting its arse kicked in the 1980's by innovative brands like Charvel and Ibanez who jumped on the super strat wagon while also getting beaten out in the high end guitar market by Gibson. Fender pivoted their focus to dominating the entry-level market with Squire while Gibson continued to market itself as a premium product, even raising the prices on Epiphones to try to make them more desirable (ultimately cannibalizing their brand). The result was a bunch of "amateur" guitarists with low-end Fenders blew up into rockstars in the 90's and made Fender "cool" again overnight. By focusing on entry-level guitars, those became a gateway to customers buying their more expensive models. Not only that, but they diversified heavily into pedals, recording software, and modelers giving them influence in the entire music sphere outside of just guitars. Meanwhile, Gibson has absolutely floundered over and over again.

Seriously, Dunkin Donuts went through a rebranding effort and I think it paid off.
That's one that actually got much shittier by doing so, but it still seems to have worked from a business perspective.

Phillip Morris to Altria.

Flex Seal
I think it's the same product as the spray on hair in a can.

Them and Stanley seem like a good case study in how a company actually expand a stale market.
Yeah, Stanley and Carhartt were solidly in the baw market then softened up to expand into the chick and frumpy dad market.

Dominos admitting their pizza sucked and they needed to change turned it around.

New balance did a hell of a turnaround recently going from “dad shoes” to cool shoes.

Struck me as expanding more into the urban market (female and male)
I don't know many New Balance dads on the Carhartt train, probably because we all wore it when it was unremarkable and cheap and can't imagine jockeying for it now

I can't see that happening. Companies like Vuori and Lululemon are going to cut into them for whatever that athleisure market is. Steph Curry and Jordan Spieth can only sell so much gear.

Interestingly, both seem to have done it more by building on and expanding what they had always been (their existing BRAND) than by completely revamping and casting off what they had done in the past.

Old Spice.
from “grandpa’s cologne” to meme-worthy, viral masculinity marketing campaign.
Old Spice skipped the X generation. The Greatest Generation and Boomers were big Old Spice users. Xers avoided Old Spice and sided with Polo and Dior...lol. Old Spice rebrands and the Millennials and Gen Z are big Old Spice users.

That's a good one. Reminded me of the Papa John's controversy where they brought Shaq in as a shadow C level face to appease the woke cancel culture and turned the PR and marketing around fairly quickly.

What the hell with those Stanley cups? Chicks love those.
Closet gays like them too. Any man who uses those straws wants to suck a penis

yep, it’s an impressive turn around.

Are you saying they poured out all the Modelo beers and filled them with BL after that whole issue?
No. AB InBev is so diversified, they might have taken a loss with Bud Light, but all of their other brand beers had an increase.
Ex: Same company owns all the apples and all the oranges.
Apple sales fall because everyone switched to oranges.

That just makes me laugh. Could have been me with a Carhatt tee shirt, cargo shorts with a pair of NBs grilling in the back yard.
