If someone isn’t a Christian to begin with, Pascal’s Wager makes absurd assumptions with no foundation. Like I said, it’s for lapsing Christians and no one else, as it doesn’t apply to anyone else.

does it?

You could obtain all with little effort only applies to Christians?

I’m not going to argue with you because I really dgaf what you believe - I made the comment bc the post I replied to reminded me of Pascal’s Wager, and I know of 3 converts who had been atheists until they read Pensees

Yes. The wager assumes that, if there is a god, you know for certain its nature. Let’s say there is a god, but it ignores honest non believers but hates those whose faith is based on self interest. Or a god who ignores non believers but hates anyone who worships other gods. There are nearly infinite permutations of god(s); it’s not simply a binary of god doesn’t exist/god exists and will reward you with everlasting bliss if you follow these easy steps. Because of that, the four quadrant Wager only makes sense for those who already have faith in that binary and means nothing to everyone else.

Hey Josh - I’m a philosophy major that works at a church.

Go get a beer and put on curling.

That’s all that matters.

Hey Green - I spent my entire life in catholic school and spent a semester senior year focussed on Christian apologetics, I have a bachelor’s in Political Science and a Juris Doctor. Had sake with my sushi for dinner, watched curling earlier and ice skating this evening.

Not sure what any of that has to do with our respective positions on Pascal’s Wager, though

It means I don’t want to talk about it because I didn’t give my position on Pascal’s wager - I merely mentioned it because a poster’s comment reminded me of it

Then I played devil’s advocate with you for a moment and realized ‘oh wait, I’m not at work and this board is not real life - so I do not need to continue this discussion because who gives a flying flip anyway?’

When someone dies, we are not the judges. Thank God for that.

because your patronizing attitude is not necessary - you don’t need to ‘teach’ me anything - I pretend I’m dumb because either I really am or I’m trying not to give away who I am

But you do not need to explain apologetics to me - TRUST ME

Pascal’s wager

Logically this makes sense, but people often base their beliefs on life experiences right? I mean, people are taught about whatever religion they grew up in and some people continue to live based on what they have learned growing up, but if someone's life experiences steer them to... lets say not believe in god, but they are in an environment where they would be shamed if they told people their views. So that person just says what's acceptable to the people around him.

And this person wants to subscribe to Pascal's wager and even tells people he does, but based on his experiences he can not truly convince himself to truly believe Pascal's wager isn't a "safe bet" how does it look for that person when they pass away?

Too easy.

Give up something you really enjoy.

Because they each tell a different story, each one different and not agreeing, unless you combine them and create your own expanded edition. But then you'd no longer have 4 independent accounts and something that you can not definitively say all (4) would agree with.

Be ready to gas it when the turn arrow becomes green.

"Verily, I say unto you. He who sleepeth through the turn arrow while his fellow man is stuck behind him may not enter the kingdom of heaven." Jeremius 7:24.
