re: What would you miss if you had to go back in time and live in the 1980s and/or 1990s?

1. The free smut that you get to watch on your phone? (Imagine explaining that sentence to someone you meet on your time-travel trip.)
The number 1 thing you’d miss is porn? Dude… get help

Not a damn thing.

Honestly, smart phones have turned us into dumb people. I remember in high school we would debate for a while on something, and now it’s instantly resolved via Google. It has destroyed our ability to reason and argue and therefore our society has collectively turned to violence.

dating apps
Dating apps have been a disaster for both men and women. The Top 20% of men are the only ones who typically get laid on them, and frick multiple women damaging all their self esteem. The dating apps have been horrible for society as a whole.

Asking what I would miss implies that I'm going back with all the knowledge/experiences that I have to date.
1st & foremost-I'd miss my wife + kids a greater level than I can put into words. Which for us is a little more interesting because I dated my wife in HS but we didn't lock in back then. It wasn't until we were 30. So that would be a wild ride of maybe convincing her to stick it out from when we were 15/16. Getting married that much earlier & having "different" kids would really screw with my head.
2nd-it would be impossible not to "out" myself when I inevitably say or ask something that relates to daily life in 2022 that would be "fantasy" in the 1980s. Which leads to the 3rd:
3rd-it would be impossible NOT to take every single clear advantage of the knowledge of life up to 2022. Having the wherewithal to invest in the greatest business successes of the 80s, 90s, 00s, & 10s would turn me into a multi-trillionaire.
The 80s oil crash (shorting it the other way), the dot com boom (Amazon, Microsoft, & Apple), the housing market crash (again, knowing to go the other way), then of course timing Crypto just right. On top of ALL of that - sports gambling.
In the end, I wouldn't miss much because I'd constantly remind myseld that it's all coming & I'd be looking at every way to capitalize on it.

Thanks to the net I've heard thousands of music tracks I wouldn't have been exposed to otherwise. In many cases super-duper-obscure things I couldn't have heard no matter how much money I spent on record collecting
One thing I enjoy now is downloading and editing audio. Some wonderful obscure singers and musicians and unknown songs. I rarely ever listen to radio or any other music source now. Have you heard the Russian folk orchestra cover of Rammstein's "Du Riechst So Gut"? Or piano tracks for "Mein Herz Brennt" or early Springsteen songs?
I would also miss digital photography and editing, though back in the day a pretty girl did not have reservations that her nudes would be spread all over the internet.

Advancement in weather models/forecasting/radar/satellites. When I started my career, we were relying on dot matrix printer and DIFAX charts and that was in the early/mid 90s.
The Weather Channel was actually fun to watch - especially John Hope during the Hurricane season...

We take for granted now that we’re able to contact anyone, anytime by phone, text, and email, with no additional charges to communicate anywhere in the world.
In the 70s and 80s, if your car broke down a few miles from the nearest town or exit, you were walking.
My girlfriend in the mid-80s went to a school 10 miles down the road from mine, but the way the phone networks were designed, that was a long distance call.

I would be happy to go back and live in the 80s. It wouldn’t bother me to give up my iPhone, etc.

We had a brown paper bag of 8 mm movies in 70s lol

You had to listen to your team’s game on the radio at 1:00. Heaven forbid if you didn’t live in the State of your favorite team.
From '82 to '97 I was either moving post to post in the Navy or living out of state. Those days of going out in my driveway or driving until I got a clear enough signal to listen to LSU football on WWL are great memories. Pre-internet, getting Tiger Rag in my mailbox was something I looked forward to all week. You appreciate things more when it's not at your fingertips and available 24/7.
