Get ready for the repair bill and hope it’s not fiber. I hit a line in my yard while installing a fence and I’m not a customer and their lawyers sent me a bill for almost $2,000 and told me I’m lucky it wasn’t a fiber line.

Absolutely this my brother in law had somehow cut a fiber line through his yard, they weren't customers, received legal notice and a bill for $35K or some shite. Absolutely amazing what these assholes can get away with.

You need to check for a utility easement. If there is one, you are likely going to get a bill. Do you have any proof that someone at ATT told you that you could take it down? Name, ID number, etc?

So this weekend, I dig it out of the ground, snip the lines and go about my day.

Are you insane?

Did you check your local laws and property offices for easements, servitudes, and utility exceptions?
Did you review your closing documents for the same?
What’d you think the lines went to?
What’d you do after you cut the lines?
You just left snipped lines laying around?
What’d you do with the poll?
In what world did you think this was ok?

You’re about to get sued by ATT for a very very large amount of money. Good luck.

Generally speaking, if you guys are me, how are you handling this?

You’ll have to take out a mortgage to afford the attorneys fees and another to pay damages so I guess I’d be cashing in any non-liquid assets I have and calling around to law firms.

No way in hell did someone from AT&T tell this guy to go ahead and yank the pole out of the ground.

I have no doubt or problem believing some idiot on the random ATT customer service line said go ahead and yank the poll.

I also have no doubt that that’a not at all a legal defense to the damages this guy is about to pay. If this thread is real, he should be shitting his pants right now.

big, ugly AT&T pole in my front yard.

This is making me suspicious. The only "poles" I've ever seen are utility (electric) poles. I have never seen an "ATT" pole.

Unless you're talking about this?

Homeowners insurance may cover it if you accidentally cut a line. Not sure about pulling a pole out the ground with your F250

A friend was putting in a fence, he called the “can I dig here number” they came out and marked the ground where he could dig. He severed a AT&T inter-state fiber bundle that knocked out a lot of service. Took several days to repair, even though he called first, and he dug where marked, AT&T billed him $35,000.00. He got a lawyer, and they settled for around $5 grand.
