Just purchased an enclosed trailer and fixing it up to camp in and haul our dirt bikes. Will be taking my grandson on a lot of dirt bike riding trips this fall.

if you do it regularly, like schedule around it and whatnot? Absolutely

I don't know how anyone could argue that tailgating every Saturday and everything that it involves wouldn't be considered a hobby

I get that. But I watch TV regularly in my leisure time for pleasure and I don't consider watching TV a hobby.

7 Saturdays a year, unless you travel. It's not 52 days a year.

I'm really just playing devil's advocate, like I said I get both sides of the argument.

well that is probably more of a societal reaction, as it fits the definition of a hobby, but that is not seen as something good, so you don't want to consider it an actual hobby

Fapping would also fit the bill here.

if it’s not a hobby, what is it? I spend thousands of dollars every year traveling to games, tickets, tailgating, etc

I guess I would consider it an "interest" or something along those lines.

I'm interested in the stock market and spend time and money in it, but I definitely don't consider it a hobby.

That's great for them. Just trying to give a random personal example. Like watching TV. I spent money on a television, cable, etc. and just don't consider watching TV a hobby.

That's fine.

But if you enjoy it and do it regularly during leisure time, it would absolutely qualify as a hobby for you.

In fact, watching TV or playing on your phone is probably most people's #1 hobby, whether they want to admit it or not
