I’ve only seen black sugar cane truck drivers but it’s been awhile since I’ve been in the area that grows it.

I know a bunch of sugarcane and crawfish farmers and I can't think of one employee that is Mexican. You are making up a problem that applies to other states, not LA.

You mention cane and crawfish, so maybe you’re in SW LA but unless LA 1 and the west side farmers all get nothing but Guatemalans, El Salvadorans, and Nicaraguans and the like it sounds like you do not know of what you speak

They have guest worker permits and they leave after harvest. I think the trucks are exempt from typical CDL laws if used for farming. They also dont bring entire families with them. I have no problem with a guest worker program as long as they leave after harvest

Sugar lobby strong in LA

Correct, and our harvest is in-between the two annual harvests in Central America

Oh no, You'll have to pay a higher wage to attract American workers who live here

As long arse society will bear the increased cost of production, that is fine. Remember….the retail customer pays in the end.

No. Because farmers are not regulated by DOT. That’s one of the problems about that. Farmers get a variance and their immigrant workers don’t need DOT licenses to drive those big trucks.

Before Andrew, the farmers could rely on locals getting off their ____ and going to work. Government freebies relieved them of having to work to eat. Guy from around New Iberia, went down to the Valley and found some folks that wanted to work. The rest is history.

I have workers on work visas. They can work for 10 months and go home for 2 months, then renew their visas rinse and repeat. Been doing for decades I’ve never had a problem. They always have their visas with them. They’ve been pulled over before in 18 wheelers hauling rice to rice driers, random dotd spot checks everything checks out and they continue on. If business do it right there’s no problems.
