FIL called me on a Friday afternoon to tell me my BIL (his son) had committed suicide. He asked me to break it to my wife because he couldn't. It was the day before my son's first birthday.

Damn.
This thread reinforces the fact I’ve had an easy life and haven’t had to break any bad news to anyone.

I haven't had to inform anyone that their relatives have died yet.

So I'd say a few breakups I had. Really liked them and they were great girls, just knew it wouldn't work for various reasons. That sucks.

I wrote my friend who was serving overseas and was unable to watch college football, that LSU got shutout in the natty to Bama. I still tremble thinking about it…

Ive done several death notifications when I was in LE. The two that I remember the most:

One was the mother of a 9yr old who was killed in a single vehicle crash where her drunk/high dad hit a tree. The mom was getting ready for a date and thought I was there for a noice complaint bc she was playing music while getting ready.

Another was the mother of a recent HS graduate (about a week post graduation) who died in a crash with his mom’s exBF that he was still close with. She thought my partner and I were hot and made a comment to her coworker that if she doesn’t come back to not come looking for her.

This was around 2001.

My boss took a vacation day to take his wife and son to the waterpark here in town.

His brother went out for a run that morning, had a heart attack and died.

We found out about it here at the office and they couldn't reach my boss to let him know.

I had to drive out to the waterpark and find them and tell him his brother just passed.
