When I stepped on.a water moccasin and it struck and got it's fangs caught in my pants.
Happened in slow-mo.
I had seen my grandpa bit as a kid by a diamondback and a scout leader bit in the woods in Mississippi.
I didn't want to deal with that.

Next scariest was when a suburban lost control on.i10 and started spinning somehow I stopped two feet short if hitting. The guy behind me swerved to miss me and hit a wall then was hit himself.
I remember the look of fear if the suburban driver. I think my look matched his.

Walking in the Quarter with another couple, on the way to a wedding reception, passed a bum who was kneeling on the sidewalk yelling at people for not giving him money. We veered around. As we approached the wax museum, I hear a woman scream, turn around, and see the bum. He's got too old ladies, on their way to the reception, walking next to them, crowding them into the street and screaming in their faces. I turned around, walked up to him (they were about 20 feet away) and stopped right in front of him, so the ladies could keep walking. As I walked up, I wasn't sure what I should do, go full offense and attack the guy or what. I ended up stopping him, said "what the frick, their just going to a wedding, leave them alone." we stared at each other for a few seconds, he said "all right" and turned and walked off.

Then I turn around and see my friend (other couple), literally hiding behind his wife. Pussy. I was pissed. Then, turns out cops had been called because the bum went in the reception, slapped the wedding coordinator that asked him to leave, then fought the cops until four of them got him cuffed and into the car.

Wasn't too scared as it happened. Though I did have a scene flash through my head where he pulls a gun and shoots me. But still, I'd want someone to help my wife or mom.

Also had a gun pulled on my in a mugging years ago. Same thing. Not as scary when it actually happened than about 1 minute later when it hits you and the adrenaline dump happens.

Tornado when I was a kid.

Had a dicey plane landing once, too.

We were only about 65' down but being in a submarine that is taking on seawater will certainly spook you.

Cliffs:

1. running a drill where we simulate the nuke reactor going down
2. We are snorkeling while running our diesel generator
3. Senior enlisted guy makes a series of blunders at his watch station resulting in tens of thousands of gallons of seawater entering our ventilation room.
4. seawater gets distributed throughout the ship and pours in through vents. The air handlers were essentiually pumping the seawater everywhere.

seawater in our battery well = very bad news as it can cause a release of chlorine gas.

A junior sailor immediately recognizes the threat and closes the vent valves to the batteries. He also throws a mattress over the non-airtight access hatch. Dude (E-4) earned a Navy Commendation medal for his quick action.

There was a period of 2-3 minutes where we didn't know what the hell was going on but quick work by the crew limited the potential damage.

As a junior sailor, I gained a tremendous amount of respect for the chiefs (E-7's). They, not the officers were steady, decisive, and knowledgable in a situation we had never trained for.

Had to watch my week old son take his last breath. It was sixteen years ago and still keeps me up at night.

When I was in college, I made the trip down to NOLA with my girlfriend. We got lost (after many drinks) and ended up walking somewhere we shouldn’t have gone. A group of young men came out of an alley, blocked our path, and surrounded us. Now the thing was, my girlfriend was Indian and in the dark of the night, her ethnicity was hard to determine. The young men started yelling at us asking what she was doing with a white boy like me. They eventually let us go on, but I was sure I was about to get beaten and who knows what they might’ve done to her.

I had a very similar experience.
