Granite, reason wife wanted it and makes her happy.

Granite. Don't like our pattern, but love the durability with kids. One of them colored ours with permanent marker a little while ago. Came up with a rubbing alcohol swab with no remnants. We beat the shite out of our outside ones too and they stand up well.

Wife wanted quartz, I wanted granite. She won in the end. It has grown on me now

Silly men, gold is too soft.
Our bathrooms have solid cherry countertops.
My kitchen has old fashioned formica. We built that part of the house ourselves after we remodeled the original 200 year old log cabin with addons. My kitchen is huge about thirty feet of linear counters and I wasn't sure I liked the design and didn't want to commit to the expense of stone when I hadn't cooked in it. I bought 3000board feet of cherry and that makes the kitchen cabinets as well as our library bookshelves. There are several tweaks I will make to the kitchen (refrigerator size changes) move the double sink and change the dish washer.) and then maybe the next will be a granite. It won't be marble or cement.

I will say that I am replacing the sink and faucet long before I care about the countertop.

Granite
Pros: natural movement, heat resistant, durable, easy to maintain, doesn’t etch or pit like marble (only reason why I went with granite vs marble).
Cons: our slabs were expensive, some people don’t like the natural movement/think it’s too busy.
We did do quartz for bathroom countertops and travertine for rest of bathroom (floors, showers, around tubs).

What are some good places in Baton Rouge where you can pick the granite or quartzite out and have somebody competent install it for you?
