Yes. Chainsaw, sawzall, circular saw, pole saw, and an angle grinder for abrasive cutoff wheels. More advanced men find a reason to own a bandsaw, porta-band, or chop saw. A good cordless combo tool set is mandatory. Portable air compressor and at a minimum a solid 20 - 30gal shop air compressor along with obligatory IR impacts, die grinder, finishing nail guns, etc. Compact router, belt sander, palm sander, a solid mechanics socket set, good torque wrenches, coping saw, couple of floor jacks and stands, good clamp DVOM, non-contact thermometer, soldering iron, heat gun, good set of prying bars, sledge hammer, good carpenter's hammer (straight claw), bench vice, gas torch, and lots of good extension cords.
I'll add more as I think of them.

This is the one I have. You can set it flush against a wall. It's the best made right now:

Necessities are combo wrenches, ratchet and sockets, hammer, a sawzall, hacksaw, circular saw, jigsaw, a drill and drill bits.
I view those as the very basics of what someone should be able to get by on. If you like to tinker with stuff, you will have more stuff than that. I'm amazed at what my tool collection has grown to throughout the years.

Currently I have 2 table saws, 2 radial arm saws, 1 large router table, 1 small router table, 1 sliding compound mitre saw, 1 regular mitre saw, 1 lathe, 1 sanding station, 2 air compressors, several different nailers, several different drills, drivers, and screw guns, dremels etc.

The Basics:
Hammer
Wrenches (end and socket)
Drill
Skill Saw (circular)
Metabo

The above can build a man all kinds of shite.

I wouldn't buy a table saw unless I absolutely needed one for a particular project. I purchased mine to complete my floring project.

quote:that is a nice one. but if i were to choose one or the other if get a nice delta table saw. you can do all your miter cuts, even go thicker that your miter saw, plus you can rip boards.
I have both. The table saw hasn't been plugged in since 2009.
The miter saw gets used all the time. It's a bad arse miter saw though.
Bosch dual bevel 12" sliding.

The tools you will use most in life are screwdrivers, wrenches, sockets and drills.
Make sure you have these, and that they are of good quality. Don't lose them or lend them out.
The next level of tools are yard tools like a shovel, rake, wheelbarrow, loppers and clippers.
This is followed by essential hand tools like hammers, saws, levels, pliers and vice grips.
The we get into the power tools. By the time you reach this level, you should have an idea of what you need. If not, then you don't need to be messing around with power tools.
You have to decide for yourself how involved you want to be personally in doing stuff manually. Are you going to fix your car yourself? Are you going to build things or just repair them? Are you just hanging pictures and shite?
Having not enough tools is only marginally worse than having more tools than you will ever need, and never use. Be honest with yourself about the type of craftsman you are, and buy accordingly.

Don't get worked up about it. I was asking about mitre saws and shite. You'll get a woman one day and she can help with this anger problem.

The range of retardation we have on this site is pretty amazing. People continue to make some of the most idiotic comments I've ever seen.

I bought one to replace an aging hitachi. Not a bad saw at all.
Only problem is mine only tils one way and requires a hand saw to complete cuts on larger boards.

However many are in my garage....no more....no less.
I have built a decent set of tools as I like to do things myself. That is I like to do them myself one time, then realize it was worth paying someone to do it. Out of all the tools I have, mechanic tools are really what you use the most (wrenches, sockets, etc.). Other than a good cordless drill and maybe a hammer, I'm paying someone to do 95% of my carpentry work. Wheras if I had a good impact wrench and set of jacks, I'd rotate my tires myself instead of paying an oil change place to do it. So I'm going to spend my money there.
