What to send to a friend with cancer in the hospital

Good friend in his early 60s just discovered he has stomach cancer. He's in a hospital in Ohio (I'm in La.) trying to gain strength (rapidly lost 40 lbs) to start chemo. Any recommendations of what to send to him and/or his wife while in the hospital? Expecting smartass/funny responses, hoping for at least a few sound suggestions.

Cross word Puzzles
Or even better go sit with him and visit for a bit.

Ask friends and family to donate blood and platelets in his name.
Bringing food or sitting with him to give the wife time to shower and sleep is always a good thing.
Offer to bring in the mail, walk the dogs, refill the fridge for them, anything to help ease the burden at home.

Would love to. I'm in Louisiana, he's in Ohio.

I’ve been rewatching the Sopranos; give him an envelope full of money.

If he doesn't have a lawn service, either hire one and have his yard taken care of while he's in the hospital, or take it upon yourself to take care of his yard.
Dry shampoo will be great for either him until he shaves, and is a gift his wife would find useful also.
Go for practical ideas. Lots of people will do the card/sweets/plant route, and it does serve to bring cheer to an otherwise dreary environment, but there are practical needs they also need met that they will appreciate.

Not sure what his diet can consist of but maybe have some food from a restaurant delivered to them. That hospital food gets old after awhile. I know when my mom was in the hospital with my dad and couldn’t/didn’t want to leave, all she really wanted was a good, hot meal.
Also maybe some books or magazines and just a visit from you will work wonders.
Thoughts and prayers to your friend.

Does he like the outdoors? Maybe some gun magazines? Is he into older hot rods?
Send him something to read to take his mind off of the situation

Well he already has cancer, so don’t send him that.

This. Big winner. Hospital food blows. Every time I'm in, I have to force the wife to go out to eat. Had even order pizza to help her out. Extras always went to the nurses which in turn would bend over backwards to help us out.
