According to the OP he should have shoved the handle up the dog's booty hole.

They’re saying that it’s hard to stab it with a knife but I have to think jamming your fist up it’s arse isn’t easy either.

I would be wishing I had a blow torch to heat it's face up. Not likely so 17 rounds of Hornady Critical Defense 115-grain FTX to the head should do the trick.

i have heard that most dog breeds cannot breathe through their nose when biting down. They must release to breathe. Pits apparently can breathe while mauling. fingers in the nostrils block that. I cannot vouch for the validity of this information, but it is worth a try if you have nothing else.

You sure it wasn't 1 block up?

The auto repair shop on the corner of Charbonnet@St.Claude?

That intersection had 1 house(by the NOPSI St.Claude Refinery Bus stop),the auto shops then Skate Land Skating Rink(mid block Charbonnet)on the river side .

Across the street was the tattoo shop(with an auto shop behind it fronting Charbonnet )plus the small barbershop by the NOPSI St.Claude Refinery Bus stop.

Behind the rear of the auto shops on Charbonnet @ St.Claude was the gas station owned and operated by twin brothers...

Rail tracks ran mid block between the gas station and the original Burger Orleans..

Alabo @ St.Claude had Burger Orleans & Vetters Lumber on the river side.

Across the street on Alabo@ St.Claude was
1 Hour Martinizing Cleaners & McDonogh #19 Elementary School.

Article I read suggested the nose works due to pain, not breathing restriction. I have no idea, just regurgitating what the article said.

I am an idiot....If I do not have a gun with me, I likely try to chock the dog out. They do not release their grip on whatever they are latched on to and it takes less than 60 seconds to send a dog to night night land.

I only say this because I saw it done once....so I know it can work.

Someone mentioned pepper spray. Does that even work against a pit?

Me, I'm gonna just shoot the bastard.

Has to be directly in the eyes and even then I don't know if it would work. These dogs go into a demonic state when they latch on.

You have to render them unconscious or incapacitated. Punching and kicking not gonna do much, you’ll break your hand before you hurt that dog head, maybe if You’re a great kicker.

This is the answer. They don't feel pain. One attacked my dog and no matter what I couldn't hurt it. The owner got it off, fortunately it was just a dominance thing, it wasn't trying to kill my dog.

I’ve read one of the most effective methods is to use water and make it choke to let go.

Most people in the park carry water bottles and such. Stick a water bottle in its mouth and squeeze. It’ll start choking and release. Not sure how true that is, just something I’ve seen to get them to release.

Take your pocket knife and slit its throat.

That’s all I got.

How do you know this? Not disagreeing, just curious.

The only reason I think that is that he didn't kill or injure my dog, only held him down with his mouth and the owner was able to easily get him off. It happens so quick, the dog came out of the dark, before you realize it a pit will have your dog firmly in its mouth. I'd say carrying a .22 handgun is likely your best defense. I now carry on of those batons that shocks, but pits are so tough, I don't how effective it would be.

Might work. I had a friend who had a pit and another dog that the pit hated. Pit latched on, baw picked them both up and dropped them into the farm pond. After a few seconds underwater, the pit let go.
