You sure it wasn't 1 block up?
The auto repair shop on the corner of Charbonnet@St.Claude?
That intersection had 1 house(by the NOPSI St.Claude Refinery Bus stop),the auto shops then Skate Land Skating Rink(mid block Charbonnet)on the river side .
Across the street was the tattoo shop(with an auto shop behind it fronting Charbonnet )plus the small barbershop by the NOPSI St.Claude Refinery Bus stop.
Behind the rear of the auto shops on Charbonnet @ St.Claude was the gas station owned and operated by twin brothers...
Rail tracks ran mid block between the gas station and the original Burger Orleans..
Alabo @ St.Claude had Burger Orleans & Vetters Lumber on the river side.
Across the street on Alabo@ St.Claude was
1 Hour Martinizing Cleaners & McDonogh #19 Elementary School.

My last words..
What did Herm Edwards and his NFL staff see when they recruited JD?
Herm said a very talented qb who could throw the long ball with accuracy and didn't turn the ball over!
What did Oregon,USC,Florida State, Tennessee, Georgia ,Utah and the other schools that made up JD'S 25 D-1 offers see?
The EXACT SAME THING THAT LSU SAW...
A talented qb that could beat a defense with the pass and could beat the defense with his football intelligence plus his running.
He wasn't a project.
He thrived no matter what conference he was in.
In the pass happy Pac 12 ,in 2 full seasons he was a few hundred passing yards shy of 6000 career ...
How many qbs at any level raise their percentage from 65 to 85 in 1 season without being reckless ,turning the ball over?
I just don't accept that BK and Sloan were qb whisperers.
I attribute it to the prior coaching in high school, former NFL professional coaching staff at ASU and the work put in by JD in Southern California, Arizona(before and during LSU)Baton Rouge
between seasons 1and 2...
By the time he was in B.R. they were only repeating what had been coached and drilled in him since his freshman season in high school.
You have the talent, work hard to maximize your talent and keep improving...
Nobody predicted the Heisman but every college coach and recruiter thought privately ( a few said publicly) that he could be 1 of the best in D-1 football.
The schools that targeted him when neither Notre Dame or LSU gave serious consideration;all had a recent run of conference championship appearances ,good college quartbacks, national title appearances or a combination of the above....
I agree wholeheartedly that it was a successful match.
I also believe he would have been the USC QB BEFORE Caleb left OU.....
He would have been a multi year starter at Utah,Georgia, Florida State, Ohio State, UCLA,Tennessee and every school that wanted him.

Point is he had already HAD SUCCESS..
There were many fans with the unfair and outright wrong narrative that LSU rescued JD.
Plus on this very board during season 1,after season 1 non JD fans called him "a running back playing quarterback "...
Everything he did prior to LSU highlighted his talent and potential!
I don't think he would have passed for 4000 yards his last year at ASU nor complete 75% of his passes ..
There's no way to know that but facts and numbers confirmed that injuries to the receivers and dropped passes contributed to the "ONLY 65% "completion
rate...

That was IN THE 1900s before current TV deals when Michigan denied them entry.
Was it even the Big Ten then?
The talks in the early 2000s were broken off by Notre Dame at the last minute according to Mike
Brey who coached mens basketball.
In modern times especially after NCAA teams were allowed to broker their own tv deals(middle '80s);Notre Dame football hasn't initiated an attempt to join the Big Ten or any other conference.

Never say never but ND has not ever come close to joining a conference for football..
Still betting on their brand and not having to share the lucrative tv money..
The other sports are doing okay conference wise therefore it's going to take something major to force them to join a conference...
Who knows maybe NIL may be the boost they need to attract the players to put them on equal footing with the championship teams.

BK knew EXACTLY who Daniel's was BEFORE LSU & BEFORE Arizona State is my point...
He Was the MVP of the bowl game his freshman season at ASU...
He PASSED for over 2000 yards that freshman season...
He has ALWAYS been a dual threat player it didn't start at LSU because of BK,Sloan or anyone else...
The kid was coached by former NFL players for 3 seasons in Tempe!
He was recruited as a passing and running QB not 1 of the 2!!
Do you even know the numbers he put up in high school??
The bulk of the 5900+ career passing yards for the Sun Devils came in his FIRST and THIRD seasons because Covid cut his sophomore season short...
He had a total of 3 interceptions in 1 full freshman season plus the bowl game and an abbreviated Covid sophomore season!
I'm not even adding his career total rushing yards and rushing touchdowns?!
You appear to be suggesting he was a better running QB than passer which isn't true at any point in his career..
The same thing 25 D-1 ,,Top 25 programs saw in him was the same thing BK saw in him...
A program changing,dominant QB...
Not only the entire Pac 12 but ALL the West Coast football schools have successfully recruited Southern California high school and JUCO players for decades...
Daniel's chose Arizona State because of the strong possibility to start as a freshman and the staff Herm Edwards had in place..
He only looked to transfer because of the pending recruiting violations/pending sanctions/ imminent firing of the Herm Regime!
Surely you are not implying that he wouldn't have been just as successful at Tennessee, Ohio State, Florida State,Oregon, Georgia ,USC and the other schools(that wanted him once and wanted him after he became available a second time)?
He didn't FAIL or DISSAPOINT as a dual threat QB in 3 college seasons..
Whether he won the Heisman or not, barring a catastrophic injury,he was getting drafted to the NFL..
He would have the same chance for greater team success at any of those top schools...
Everyone watched his efforts when plays broke down.
It's evident that his talent and skills erased blown assignments by the offensive line.
It was evident that he studied film from his first season at LSU ..
It was also evident that spending an off season working out his receiving crew garnered trust and respect for all parties ..
Yes BK gets loads of credit for recruiting JD .
Every college football coach in America knew that the ASU players could leave after the upheaval.
Coach BK quietly recruited JD because he didn't want to lose him.
He recruited JD because he knew he needed more competition at QB and a better QB..
If LSU didn't get JD he would have looked elsewhere.
But BK's main contribution to those 2 years was tuning out the naysayers THAT DIDN'T HAVE A CLUE about JD's high school and college accomplishments...
He WAS NEVER a running back playing quarterback..
He didn't suddenly learn how to read the defense, scan the field,go through progressions, command an offense
and pass at a high percentage rate
after 1 off-season .
He did it for 3 years prior and I typed this long post for anyone and everyone repeatedly claiming LSU,BK,Sloan etc MADE JD into a successful QB .
He arrived in Baton Rouge as an in demand quality and qualified QB.
He arrived as a high percentage skilled passer and decisive, fast processing, quick thinking qb in total command of the offense as well as deceptively fast, elusive runner..

How was he unknown in high school sports rich Southern California?
He had choices and options after the coaching/ASU/NCAA situation reached a head!
You dudes keep repeating the same nonsense!!
As a high school senior He had options...
He had offers from 25 D-1 schools.. 3 offers were from SEC schools:Georgia ,Tennessee and Ole Miss... Ohio State ,Florida State,UCLA,Oregon, USC and Utah offered him..

Daniel's had a 65% completion rate and threw for 2300 yards in his last season @ Arizona State.. That's also the SAME 10 interception season people reference without noting that he had the HIGHEST COMPLETION PERCENTAGE IN THE CONFERENCE !
Ran for 700 yards and 6 tds.
In 3 seasons he passed for almost 6000 yards with ONLY 13 interceptions...

Mensah beat out former Oregon QB Ty Thompson to win the starting job...
No way he's leaving Tulane for LSU!!
You have a better chance convincing Thompson to transfer....
Many people thought Thompson would start after Pratt graduated.

Not true Cowboy....
Making reads wasn't a major issue.
He had expert coaching from former D-1 and NFL coaches.
He has always been a quick learner and processing was never an issue.
Between the issues around the program and Covid, he needed a stable program.
I posted elsewhere that everyone points to his final season in Tempe where he threw for 10tds and 10 ints...
Nobody acknowledges he passed for over 2300 yards and completed over 65% of his attempts.
Plus he led all Pac 12 qbs with that 65% rating...
In his freshman year he was the Sun Bowl MVP and only had 2 ints the entire season with over 2800 yards...
His second season he had 1 int.
He was recruited by over 25 D-1 schools including: USC ,UCLA, Oregon, Ohio State, Georgia, Tennessee, Ole Miss and Florida State...
He was already very talented, very skilled with a low propensity to turn the ball over...
Imo,Sloan & BK encouraged him to have more trust in the receivers, his natural instincts and the actual physical play development (not over thinking)..
To JD'S credit he took the coaching from all the staff at ASU and LSU.
He studied film and defensive
tendencies especially what the
former NFL dudes at Az.State
taught him.
Finally he and his offensive dudes got a chance to work out together, spend preseason with each other and bond..
That created a bond and trust that carried them to greater heights and exceeded everyone's expectations..
Imo because BK believed in JD it was going to be a successful transition.
Because the QB Coach, the Playcaller,Receiver Coach, OL Coach all believed in the special player at QB ; the entire offensive unit became confident that they couldn't be shut down or beaten for any length of time no matter the opposition.
Whatever works to bring the best out of a player..
I think it was the support, encouragement and trust by BK & Sloan more than anything physical..
JD'S just a gifted football player with great IQ on and off the field..
On another note: the success of last seasons offense led to all the preseason accolades, praise, high rankings of the 2024 offensive line...

3 offers were from SEC schools:Georgia ,Tennessee and Ole Miss...
Ohio State ,Florida State,UCLA,Oregon, USC and Utah offered him..
He signed with Pac 12 school Arizona State.
A few reasons were: he could compete for the starting job as a freshman & HC Herm Edwards and his staff were former NFL players..
It wasn't like he was a bust at Az.State either?!
His frosh year he had 2900 passing yards,17 passing touchdowns and 2 interceptions.
Year two he had 5 td passes and 1 int.
Year 3 he had 2300 passing yards ,10 tds ,10 ints..
Year three he led the conference with a 65% completion rating.
Even with 10 ints he still completed 65% of his passing attempts.
I didn't list his rushing yards and tds..
Won the MVP of the Sun Bowl his freshman year!
HOW WAS HE UNKNOWN?
HOW WAS HE MEDIOCRE?
Coach BK knew EXACTLY THE TALENTS AND QUALITIES of the player he was recruiting!
Only the former players, fans and alumn questioned the move..
Then with clear visual evidence of JD's play some complained and wanted him replaced!
Even after he and the team upset Alabama many didn't want him to return?!
The ignorance continued his final year with calls for his benching?!
You dudes say totally false things to denigrate others in attempts to prove points.
No facts.
Daniel's was a highly rated high school player with offers from the top schools in the country.
He and the team were caught up in a school administration, football program ,NCAA situation ...
Additionally ,his time in Tempe,Arizona was during the Covid Pandemic...
Everyone repeatedly claiming knowledge using untruths and baseless, manufactured nonsense.
If you believe that JD WAS EVER MEDIOCRE AS A FOOTBALL PLAYER you are a questionable judge of football talent..

The 9th Ward's own Percy Pugh...
He coached some good kids and young men after retiring.
Until Katrina he worked in the family's auto body shop on Florida Ave in the Lower 9th Ward.
He died a couple of years ago.

Whatever you labeled him it's not as negative as you want it to be nor as funny as hoped it to be!!
The missed field goals list is full of very good and great NBA players including the 2 previous longtime career total points leaders.
Any list that includes:: Wilt,West,Oscar,Elgin,Elvin,Hakeem,Timmy,Hondo,Malone, Kareem,Dirk,Nique is GOOD NOT BAD!!!
What's the common thread for you Kobe haters and you non factor, unreliable options in your basketball careers??
You had to be the man!
You had to be TOP 2 OPTIONS!
You had to come off the bench cold and provide instant offense.
You had to want to and be able to shoot and score when teammates wouldn't and couldn't at a high rate and percentage .
You had to be willing to take shots and not worry about your percentage and misses although you wanted to convert everything, every single time you shot.
So for people that thinks it's a flex to rail on Kobe,LBJ,Iverson, Mello,Younger Westbrook....it's not!
These dudes are professional scorers..
Many good and great college scorers can't score consistently in the NBA.
Not many people are Wilt and Kareem that score efficiently and are both scorers and shooters...
Those 2 wouldn't have put all time great career numbers if they were worried about missing shots..

Kobe Bryant had more success than Jerry West as a Laker player...
Stop repeating gibberish..
The numbers don't lie...
More points, more steals, more championship rings, better Finals winning percentage...
What else is there???
Don't bother I've listed the All Time Lakers numbers...
It bears out just what i have always said before I had to show you non believers and Kobe
haters....
Kobe Bryant is a better Laker than both Jerry West AND Shaquille O'Neal!!!
Argue with the results but you can't win that argument.

Kobe Bryant was more successful as A Los Angeles Laker than the Great Jerry West AND the Great Shaquille O'Neal!!!
Outside of 3 great and totally dominant playoff finals by Shaq(when Kobe was his equal in the preliminary playoff series and games leading up to the finals) Kobe is/was a better Laker than Shaquille O'Neal!!!
Kobe has a better Finals winning percentage than the Great Jerry West AND leads West in Career Lakers numbers, rings and everything else!!
Numbers don't lie!
Where is West on the lists??
Where is Shaq on the lists??
Kareem played his first 6 seasons in Milwaukee...
Wilt played his 4 seasons in Philadelphia..
Wilt ONLY PLAYED 5 seasons with the Lakers...
Elgin played all 14 seasons with the Lakers..
Jerry played all 14 seasons with the Lakers..
You dudes keep letting your personal feelings about Kobe dictate the foolish takes yall swear by!!!!!
Kobe Bryant is a Top 3 Los Angeles Laker by ANY METRIC you use!!!
Once again nobody in Southern California disputes that fact!
Every So.Cal Laker fan from the Jack Kent Cooke era to present acknowledges it....

Not really!!!
Where is #3 All Time Total Career Points Leader Wilt Chamberlain(16th) ranked on the missed shot list??
Where is #2 All Time Total Career Points Leader Kareem Abdul Jabbar(8th) ranked on the missed shot list??
You dudes use shots missed to attack Kobe but make excuses for LBJ!!!!
You can't score if you don't shoot especially if you are worried about your fg percentage instead of winning and attempting shots when your team needs points!!!
Especially when others are afraid to shoot...
The majority of the players on the missed shots list are all time greats and ALL OF THEM were great NBA players!!!
In reality it's not a negative stat for Kobe,Westbrook, LBJ ,Mello,Iverson or
anyone else!!
Although Wilt Chamberlain and Kareem were easily more efficient as well as better shooters and scorers than Kobe and Lebron; once again somebody had to be a top 2 option and want to score!!
If you're on a list that includes West,Olajuwon,Oscar,Wilt, Kareem,Duncan,Elvin Hayes,Elgin Baylor,Jordan,Malone,Dirk,Dominique it's good not bad!!!

Kobe is 16th in steals ....
If you watched him play ,he excelled on both offense and defense...
Not on paper....not a media creation..
Highly regarded, highly ranked, highly respected by teammates, opponents, coaches,scouts,management....
Only media and fans disrespect his greatness....
He defended at a very high level, with above average skill, technique and basketball intelligence...
Plus he had the will and desire to be great no matter who he guarded.
He never avoided great scorers or gifted offensive players unlike a player or two you dudes constantly hype!!
Film doesn't lie and there's a huge archive refuting your opinion that his defensive prowess is overrated!!
