How tired people seem to be. Maybe it’s this state getting worse and people being exhausted, but I remember growing up we would be out and about at 7 AM on Saturday for breakfast, grocery shopping, or just to beat the heat in the summer and I’d see a good deal of other people. Not crazy packed, but people were out and about. The other day I went for a long run at 6 AM, finished up close to 730 and there were so few cars it was crazy. I did see one guy passed out in front of a store, but it feels like people have lost their energy or something. It makes me sad.
Growing up, David Letterman was about as late as mainstream entertainment got. Now, everyone’s devices are screaming for their attention non-stop. It isn’t sustainable, but I don’t know how we come back from it.

The 3% credit card fee is creeping into more restaurants, even fine dining.

I feel like produce quality has nosedived since Covid. Like the stores figured out they could get away with selling shite that's about to go bad.

no OT threads about the best typewriter ribbons or discussions about the best film for kodak cameras.
also don't see anyone posting deals for newspaper subscriptions.

Amazing lack of being up and about contributes to low energy. We have super computers in our hands that waste hours of our day that keep us slouched over in one spot for literal hours if you let it.
No wonder you do t see people about and about, they’re locked into their phones, tvs, games, or watch other people do these things

In the last couple months I've noticed more 18 wheelers that are ungoverned than ever. Seeing dozens of them on the interstates driving 75+, sometimes up to 85. It used to be one out of hundreds you drive near, now it seems like 1 in 5ish
That being said, there's still carriers that limit theirs to 65 - which is equally as ridiculous and dangerous

Most people under the age of 50 or so have terrible views on most things and it makes it sort of insufferable to be around them or associate with them.
Half the people are openly terrible/trashy, and a large portion of the other half are also terrible/trashy but hide it a lot better.
Sometimes I wonder if things really could be better elsewhere, in some other country. What we have going for us is our laws at this point I think.

You have no idea what fat slobs most Americans are until you travel internationally for awhile and come back.
As an aside, after retirement I plan to spend a lot of time in Argentina.

The massive socioeconomic divide between people who started their professional careers before the Great Recession of 2008 vs those who started after.

people used to have places to socialize, now we’re confined and it’s not good for a lot of reasons

Probably 95% of the hispanics arrested in my area are charged with driving without a license.
If there are illegals living around you, be careful at four way stops. Some of those fellas will just go when the car in front of them goes.

Lack of rectal tone after age 60. It's a clear and present danger.

I think you’re just seeing a different generation of people take over. People today may not be as physically tired as people were once upon a time. But they are very mentally drained by phones, social media, money woes, increasingly bratty kids, etc. I don’t think many folks get up on Saturday morning anymore eager to run to the hardware store or something. I myself take a good 2 hours to get moving on a weekend morning, whereas 10 years ago I’d of had half my day completed in that time.
