It looks like a Robber Fly of some sort. They're actually pretty cool and catch flies and other bugs. Only kill them if you see a big one trying to take down a Hummingbird. Really, they do that.

It's called a Scorpion Wasp. See that curled stinger? A few of them can take down dog.

when we were building our house in the typical white dirt surrounding the house. I saw insects of the likes that I have never seen before like scifi- before grass sod went in.

Red ants, no. We have more sweet ants or piss ants or whatever you want to call them than I've ever seen this year, though. Probably due to all the rain.

As kid, would go to Des Allemands, LA to great aunt's house next to bayou gauche and see bugs (like yours) I had never seen before. Bugs from Mars.
