What state in America do you most associate with “old money”?

All old money was once trashy new money. Old money just means you'r putting on airs while living off the effort of your ancestor who didn't know what fork to use but busted his arse so your daughter could be a debutante.

I disagree. The puritans of early New England might have arrived less than rich, but they were never “trashy”. They brought strong family culture and work ethic, which is why the regions inhabited by puritans grew so wealthy so fast.

This is a completely different question. Old money tends to live and have lived in enclaves.
For example Chevy Chase in Maryland, Haverford in Pennsylvania, and Short Hills in New Jersey. The states as a whole have plenty of white trash but those little areas have been traditionally filled with people who have multi-generational wealth which in and of itself does not exempt them from being trash either.

All that land the Brits got in Virginia, Marylandcsnd the Carolinas made those areas home to some of the oldest money in our country

Connecticut certainly has some old money, but they also have a lot of new money. Lots of hotshot bankers and lawyers that had janitors for dads and will probably have janitors for sons or grandsons.
Also if you've ever left the southwest corner (IE suburban/exurban new york city such as Darien, Stamford, etc..) you know there is a lot of blight, slums, and lower-middle to poor in Connecticut. New Haven is a dive, Hartford sucks, Waterbury-Ansonia are dead factory cities, and Torrington is, too. Groton-New London is not exactly a garden spot. Its' a shipbuilding city so think Pascagoula.

Unless they have lost all of their great-great-grandfather's money they are decidedly not ending up in FL.
