New guard rails and lighting for the causeway would be nice.

The only answer that will truly alleviate traffic is a new bridge south of Baton Rouge.

5. Add at least one new bridge over the Amite at S. Harrels Ferry, Monitor, and/or Tiger Bend to Connect with 4-H Club Road.
Really good idea....and isn't an expensive loop.
Hooper road crossing would be ideal as well.

It's almost like....no....it can't be....can it?

I agree with a lot of this.
I was in Houston last month and they have toll roads everywhere. It's a pain if you are trying to avoid paying tolls or you don't have a tool tag, but seems super convenient if you lived there and knew how to navigate them.
I want to know what the process involved to get some toll roads in the BR area. Does BR own the toll roads? Can an outside company come in and build it using imminent domain?

Close the Washington Street exit? Racist.
(did I do that right?)

quote:i don't mind being the sole downvote here. this is a very common misconception. you can't just close the exit and then suddenly the merge is gone. the issue is that you're coming from 2 lanes over the bridge, but at the washington exit, the rightmost lane is dropped. a much better design would be keeping that right lane going and not dropping, that way you'd have 2 continuous lanes over the bridge and through the split. but in order to do that, you would have to widen the interstate after the exit.
Close the Washington Street exit in Baton Rouge, eliminating the merge to one lane on I-10 past the New Bridge eastbound.
if DOTD barricaded off the exit today, you would still have to merge over into the left lane if you were in the right lane, and it would still effectively be just one lane at the split.

You realize that this is Louisiana, right? Toll roads, I hate them. They would be exacerbated by the idea of this pile of money coming in daily and NOT going into pockets. You all talk like the tolls would be dedicated to maintaining the roads where they are collected. HA. Fat chance of that.
You think John Alario is loaded now?Wait until you have tolls in the state treasury, or in some dedicated toll road fund before it gets turned over to the state. HA.

Most road projects in BR and Nola are kickbacks to some good ole baws construction company that make 0 improvements for anyone else involved. Need to get the good ole boy network involved

You already know that bitch is gonna be a toll road.

NOLA:
1) Four lanes of I-10 from Vets Exit to Williams, or maybe Loyola. This would require rebuilding the I-10/Veterans interchange, and navigating the canal (I say bury it with pipes)
2) A direct connector from I-10 West to the Causeway Bridge, and from the Causeway Bridge to I-10 East. You could toll this.
3) Toll road extension of Earhart Expressway to the airport, and eventually 310. You could run a four lane road down the old railroad tracks to the airport. Once the terminal moves, I'm guessing the park and fly lots will move as well. Really, your only issue would be the Hilton Hotel. Give them the option to relocate to the north side of the airport and connect to the terminal.
4) This is the big one. They need to rebuild everything from the CCC to the I-10 split off with the Ponchatrain Expressway. For starters, the ramp from I-10 West to the southbound expressway, headed to the bridge, that big flyover ramp, that thing is horrible. Traffic constantly backs up there. They should be able to them easily have four lanes of traffic flowing up to the bridge.
5) And this is the easiest. Fix the Almonaster Bridge, that would take a ton of traffic off the highrise.

Closing the Washington St. exit and repainting the lanes would be a huge fix, but adding barricades, new paint for traffic lanes and some reflectors would be too easy to do.

This would be nice but I'm not sure there's room. If so, why not. It's only a small stretch.

Is this making Causeway Blvd a controlled access highway?

I'm not sure where one would be able to take this road once it passes David. It's kinda hemmed in by the railroad, Airline, and the river. It seems like it would make more sense to widen airline right there and sync/reduce the lights, so that traffic on Earhart could transition more seemlessly to Airline.

Agreed. However, there are plans to do the exact opposite there and simply destroy the elevated portion of I-10 between the CCC and 610. 610 would be relabeled I-10 and the portion of I-10 between the CCC and the current 10/610 split near Pontchartrain Blvd would become US-90 and eventually I-49 when the Lafayette connector is finished and the last remaining stretches of US 90 are upgraded to interstate grade.

Agreed, especially the Boh Bros construction trucks.

You aren't the only downvote on this. Closing Washington without adding a lane to the split does nothing.
