Cast iron I can restore, coolers in good shape.

If there is a kitchen gadget I think I might use, I'll look for that, try it out, keep it or return it and buy a new one if I think it is something I might use.

Typically books.

I usually walk through the junk furniture. Rarely looking for an actual piece of furniture I want to keep. Instead, I look for real wood dirt cheap.

Last week I found a crappy red cedar coffee table someone had screwed together and lacquered all to hell. 10 buck for $100 plus worth of red cedar. Broke it apart, ran the boards through my planer, and built some shelves for my upstairs bathroom.

There is gold in vintage cast iron. That is a good find.

Vintage fishing lures are also a good find for resale.

I haven't been to a thrift store in a while. It might be time to go looking.

A lot of the good stuff is from cleaning out homes of elderly parents who either have passed or need to go to assisted living. The stuff they accumulate is overwhelming to those who have to deal with it.

Music CDs. Sometimes I find brand new unopened CDs. I found titles that were out of print that I couldn’t find anywhere else.
It’s a good idea to frequent one where there’s some money around with wealthy people donating.
Also, church thrift stores are good places to find CDs

Working in California a long time ago I bought a very nice blazer for like $7 from Goodwill.

We were living out of a suitcase, working on a criminal case. It was supposed to be a fact finding trip, but we ended up needing to appear in court. Freaked out thinking I was gonna have to pay premium dollars to get a suit. Saw this place near our local coffee shop and ended up with a blazer and tie for under $10. Sent it back home via our courier who made the trip on a train. He was afraid to fly, but it worked out because he could haul all our files (and my jacket) on the train. Blazer hung in my office as an emergency backup until I got too fat.

Toys for the kids that we redonate at the end of the summer and/or when they grow out of them. That’s about it. I’ll look for a goofy t shirt now and then. Occasionally find good dishes for the rental house. Cool coffee mugs. Oh I did buy a brand new looking sofa for a furnished rental once. I made sure to do the smell test for smoke etc. it passed. Until it was sealed in the house a few days. Smells like Febreze and Greatgrandmawmaw.

I don’t frequent them, but have stopped in a few to kill time hoping to find some vintage stereo equipment.

Yep. Pretty much all I look for. People immediately know what Griswold and Wagner are, but there are other good things out there that people just aren't as familiar with that you can get for next to nothing. You can also pick up something dirty and rusty for cheap and its easy to restore.
