I had one that would turn on at full volume in the middle of the night. This was back in the stone age when you could take a TV to the shop for repairs instead of just throwing it away. Repairman changed out some expensive parts and didn't cure the problem. Took it back to him and he changed out a few cheap parts and it never turned on by itself again.

power surges

1. Power surge
2. Faulty/shorted on/off switch
3. CPU board could be damaged from power surge. I've seen a home burn down from a electric smoker that the fire marshall deemed had a bad board.

My school put in televisions about 8 years ago (CC TV). They were all the same brand and model. Some times I would bring my remote with me to the work room just so I could turn on the TV's in the classrooms of my fellow teachers on the way. They were always puzzled as to why they turned on by themselves. It was fun for awhile but then my remote broke...the piece of shite
