The TV became "aware". I know how this plays out.

I know on mine if the HDMI port senses activity when that device is activated (like AppleTV) it will turn on the TV.

I recommend to OP that he get an HDMI cable and download the updates his vendor has for his TV. Few people bother to keep their TV's up to date.

He could call the vendor and ask if there is a specific fix for this issue, and in which release.

Dude mine has been doing this as well, much older DLP tv.

You happen to get an appletv 4 recently? I thought that might be what was doing it for me because it is integrated automatically with tv

Interesting. We had the same thing happen to us in our hotel in New Orleans over this weekend. Walked in the room and the TV was going. Would use the remote and turn it off but it would pop back on in a minute or two. I finally unplugged it to turn it off.

The next time we plugged it in to watch, it worked like normal turning off with no problems. Maybe your TV just needs a reboot.

Some have alarm timers and sleep timers. Some turn themselves on any time there is a power outage and the power comes back on. The one upstairs at my parents' house used to do this, kind of creepy some times.

Is it by a window? I've heard of neighbors universal remotes turning on TVs before.

Possible. Neighbor is a tech savvy guy. His house is probably 60-70' away from mine. His kitchen faces my house and our bedroom is on the side of the house closest to his. His living room is in the middle of his house. Seems like some extreme range, but I guess it's possible.

Could have accidentally messed with some settings in the menu to have it programmed to come on/off at certain times?

I had this happen with the tv in my bedroom, it had been set to always go to sleep after 20 minutes and it took me a while to figure out the settings had been changed.

Totally random. We can leave it off for days and it'll just pop on. No set time or schedule. The one that happened while we were gone was in the middle of the day. The other two were at night.

Dog doesn't GAF and sleeps at the foot of the bed nearest the TV.

Your neighbor's garage door opener is on the same wavelength as your TV remote.

Neighbor was gone on a business trip yesterday when this happened.

Yes, and it will do the same....but here's the weird part. The first time it happened, the apple tv was not connected. Only Directv. The 2nd time, ATV was connected, but it was not on when the TV came on. 3rd time, ATV had been removed to see if it would happen with nothing connected. It did.

Another remote control in your house possibly. Also might be faulty box connected to it. Something flowing from wifi. A neighbor with one of those strong surge things to frick with people (can turn off lights at banks and gas stations etc).

Televisions do NOT turn themselves on by themselves. If you are being honest, something sketchy and heinous is going on. You do know that outsiders can watch and listen to what is going on through a TV that is turned on?

I always unplug mine when they are not in use.

I would worry less about who I am and more about why someone's television "magically" turns on by itself.

So I'm a "loser" because I'm the only one who recognizes exactly what is going on at that house?

It is important and recommended to turn off all electronic devices when not in use. The batteries will hold the time.

Do you really not know that people can electronically intrude in a house through any electronic device connected to the outisde (for example, cable, satellite)?
