What possible reasons are there for a TV to turn on by itself?

We have a 3-4 year old flat panel plasma that has been in the Living Room for the past few years. Got a new TV and moved this one to the Master Bedroom. Since doing that, the damned thing has been acting crazy. We got home a couple of days ago and it was on with the volume blasting. So loud that there's no chance we left it on.
About a week ago, the wife and I were in the living room and we heard it come on (it plays a sound when it comes on/goes off). I go back there and check. Nothing on the TV.....it was just on.
Then, just last night, same thing. It comes on.
1. No kid tampering. Those frickers were in bed the last 2 times.
2. No animal tampering. Dog was in the room with us both times.
Any ideas?

eta; maybe it's picking up a signal from someone with a universal remote. Possibly a neighbor or something. My friend had this issue with his Xbox. His neighbor would over and play Xbox with his own controller. And sometimes he'd turn the controller on whenever he got home, which would turn my friend's Xbox and tv on.

Could have accidentally messed with some settings in the menu to have it programmed to come on/off at certain times?
I had this happen with the tv in my bedroom, it had been set to always go to sleep after 20 minutes and it took me a while to figure out the settings had been changed.

Is it by a window? I've heard of neighbors universal remotes turning on TVs before.

Any other devices hooked up to it? I know on mine if the HDMI port senses activity when that device is activated (like AppleTV) it will turn on the TV.
