Why don’t the “good” people just move back to Baton Rouge? They’d save 250 hours of commute time a year and improve the city’s economy.

Smart people really aren't big on paying a shite ton of taxes with nothing to show for it.

How much does your average person save per year by living in the suburbs, I wonder?

It's not so much what you save, it's more that you are actually getting something back. It's pretty much a wash between taxes paid in Baton Rouge vs the burbs.

It will never happen. Voters don't vote for people that tell them what they need to hear. They vote for people that tell them what they want to hear. This town needs more of what they need than what they want.

Let's just break down one area - education. If you move to Zachary or Central and send a kid to public HS, then you are looking at an approximate direct savings of $45,000-$60,000 over a four year span. And that is just for one child. If you move to Livingston or Ascension, then you are also saving on lower local taxation and, if you own a home, lower housing costs.

I think it's safe to estimate that an average family of four could save anywhere from $150,000-$300,000 by living outside of Baton Rouge.

I used to want to run...

But the answer is a younger "moderate" that promotes business and entertainment growth through other measures than additional taxation.

Basically anyone willing to re-do Kip's first 2-8 years as Mayor President

Let's take the gloves off and just say it. There is a segment of the population of voters who would vote for him just because he's black. Damn his experience, his vision, his ability to get things done, etc. All of the most important aspects of the job would fall by the wayside. We just happened to get lucky with Kip in that he was actually a pretty good mayor, all things considered. I would be all behind getting behind and endorsing a mayor who happens to be black, yet possesses all the necessary qualities to get the job done. That's basically what it's going to take.

The best BR might can hope for is someone like Tara Wicker.

Jeff LeDuff. He can get votes on both sides. He refused to cater to community activists when he was chief and in fact took a ton of heat post Katrina for shutting the riff raff down before they started crap. He did a pretty good job with the money and really did a good job of surrounding himself with a strong command staff. He had a few issues with some other leadership positions, but was also stuck with some of thjose guys. He will never run bc he doesn’t want to deal with the BS.

They’re the most non-Edwards family in the whole crooked state.

Mike Rowe gets my vote.

Actually wouldn't be a bad choice at all. His last name is unfortunate in LA politics but maybe that would help him in BR
