What percentage of Covid patients that go on ventilator get off the ventilator alive?

Haven’t seen data on that but anecdotally hearing it is very low. That could be an important stat as we decide what to do going forward.

JBE didn’t know how many people in LA are in the hospital with cv, they’re sure as hell not gonna know the answer to this.

I’d like to see this too but I’m willing to bet it’s 50/50 or better.

I guess ventilator is never a good thing. When you get to that point alot of shite goes south. I've been on one before while I was awake and if I could have unplugged it I would have and just died.

I also understand from interviews here and there that many stay on there much longer than normal.

What about the ones they sent home instead?

Too early to tell.. Many are on ventilators right now. Quit trying to crunch numbers and say a prayer for the afflicted and infirm.

Probably 25% go south fast. 25% recover fast. 50% go into limbo where they are just slow to wean.
The numbers are totally made up, but it feels that way right now.

If you needed a ventilator and got sent home instead.....I am pretty sure you died

Less than 50%.
At late-stage COVID19, you basically have ARDS mortality numbers which is about 50-70% dead 30 days after diagnosis of ARDS

Most people over 70 do not recover after being on a ventilator regardless of covid or not.

I read something yesterday that stated 95% of patients that require a vent die. Idk how true that is.

A 27 year old study isn’t what I am looking for.
And I am being more specific about Covid patients internationally

30% survival rate one year after vent.
If this is the case, then why the hell are we going nuts about the ventilators? I understand that 30% range of survival is worth fighting for, but we should be putting the effort into preventing them from getting on the ventilators. I know we are, but that doesn't seem to be the focus discussed much.

ARDS?? Damn that’s damn near a death sentence

We're probably not going to be able to get this information in a real-time crisis setting. That said, I look to the number of deaths per day versus the number of positive cases as that is probably more telling of how much the ICU's are being impacted. That is, the vast majority of people testing positive have a slight fever and just go home. The deaths are indicative of people who were, almost certainly, in ICU prior to their deaths.
