What percentage do you think you should be tipping?

It's probably not enough...

Servers complaining about their tips is trashy AF.

wtf is the deal with tipping topics here? Tip what you want.

I’m all for tipping well at a nice, sit-down restaurant. I usually tip $1-2 (for the kitchen staff) when I pick up pizza. But, tip culture is out of control.

I travel a lot and it really depends on the food and service. I usually tip around 20% but if I am with a group who overstays after eating then the tip amount goes up.
If I have to chase down my waitress/Waiter then it goes down quickly.

How could a group of people — assuming that is 4+ heads — spend just $226 in 4 hours somewhere unless it was a dive bar where they were buying domestic drafts?

$40 seems low to me if the service was good. But he shouldn’t be complaining about what he gets, regardless.

We should go back to a 15% standard. If the service is exceptional, bump it to 20-25%. This should be the expectation. But instead they want to shame people into tipping more because inflation is out of control and they don't want to pay servers more.

what about that poor girl who works tables at a white trash hell hole like Buffalo Wild Wings on a Saturday or Sunday?
4-5!hour tables of guys sipping through buckets of cheap beer and ordering 20 wings. Total bill $85 and taking home that $5 tip

No. Servers who publicly post that they are entitled to tips in the 30-40% range should be humiliated and mocked. Maybe this out of control tipping culture can be reigned in through shame.

I used to be in the 15% camp. Now, I tip 20-25% and feel good about it.

Well, I recommend that you start tipping at 100%. You'll probably feel even better about it.

Agreed but I don’t think most of society can calculate 15% in their head. I believe it went to 18-20% when people realized they just had to double the tax.

$40 tip at 4 hours is $10/hr. Minimum skills=minimum pay. It’s really not that hard.

My lunch today was 13.50 Affectionately. I tipped 3.50 to make it an even 17. I thought that was fair.

One of the few interesting things I found on Reddit recently is this google docs spreadsheet someone started for restaurants in DC with their surcharges, health charges and tipping minimums. It shows how totally out of control some regions are:

And this is just one of the numerous threads detailing the latest annoyance of charging customers for employee health:
