Pretty sad that the government can give a weekly stipend to 30,000,000 people and it doesn't come close to costing what the corporate bailouts are costing us.

Also, if these companies paid a living wage, people would be more willing to go back to work. But nooopppeeee, we let employers pay $7.25/hr, even less to servers, and then are SHOCKED and APPALLED that people wouldn't willingly go back to earn those shite wages when the government is literally paying them more to sit on their asses.

Employers can easily incentivize workers to return by offering a raise that outbids the new unemployment benefits.

I’ve been travelling. Some hotels have flat out eliminated daily service as a covid precaution.

To a degree it’s probably feel good theatre, but it also saves them money. And with how empty they are, they need to cut costs.

By the time Obama was out of office, 72% of the federal spending was on transfer payments. Just stop, the feds give trillions to people every year. Its why unemployment stayed low, but participation in the workforce was at its lowest.

I dont really know anyone paying $7.25 unless it is to a teenager as their first job. You are just making shite up now.

I would love to see a link to this, with the understanding that Social Security, Medicare, Disability, and unemployment, all programs we pay into during our working years, are not forms of "transfer payments".

72% of our budget goes to welfare and medicaid?

Then make it $12/hr, which many unskilled, blue collar workers make....those folks aren't going to want to go back to work either.

Do y’all remember after the flood when playgrounds were covered in overflowing sewage water and we had to keep them closed until they could be properly sanitized and safe for people to use? It was inconvenient but no one was trying to put their babies in a poop box for a moment of “normalcy”.

Just pretend this isn’t a global viral pandemic and everything is covered in flooded poop water so you need to stay home instead. That restaurant? Covered in poop water. Your church pew? Poop water. Your salon? Poop water floor to ceiling. Just so. much. poop. water. Where are you safe from the poop water? AT HOME.

Doubt it the workforce commission favors employees plus no way they want to get entangled in he said she said messes.

This couldn’t be further from the truth. In normal times it’s pretty difficult to get unemployment.

With that said, I imagine once things start really opening back up, they’ll implement the looking for work option back in.

They told my buddy if a job is reported to them 90% of what he was making he has to take it.

So what OP is saying is pure rubbish.

It's hilarious that you think that. As much as I'd like for it to be true, employers rarely win in normal times. Now it's down to zero.

That’s the problem employers are not able to hire because the potential hiree they seek, would rather collect unemployment.

Not so fast. Most of my laid off white collar co-workers would much rather be at work. There is an entire workforce of capable employees who are hurting.

None of your white collar co-workers is going to go work in a restaurant for $360 per week when they can collect $875 per week in unemployment either.

Yea my past experience with unemployment was ridiculous with the hoops you had to jump through to get it and continue to qualify.

There were plenty of weeks that I over reported my working hours when I found a PT job, and a few that under reported. You would think they would cancel out, but they definitely came after me for $52 2 years later.

Employers rarely win on whether they were terminated for cause or not bc they they rarely document jack shite.

Otherwise I know of no instances in normal times in which we laid off employees then begged them to come back and battled unemployment office about it. That isn’t a normal time thing. But keep it up.

They are absolutely transfer payments. Are you really clueless enough to think that what you are paying today doesn't go DIRECTLY towards paying current retirees? You are a dumbass if you think you contributed enough during your career to cover even 5 years of your retirement.

Are you in LA? You're telling me that in normal times someone would refuse to come back to their full time job so they could make $247 per week ($6 per hour)?

You are the one who said that. Specifically you said in normal times employers lose this battle.
