Picking up key words isn't hard at all. Speaking it is another story. If I can't point and get them doing something, I use Google Translate

I know enough French to get by, but it sure would be nice to be immersed in it.

For an adult German FTW if you spend much time in Europe.

If I were a kid, probably Mandarin.

If you're oriented towards Latin America, obviously Spanish.
