Is your wife an only child, or at least your MIL's only daughter?

Congrats bro! Parenting comes as you go, it's natural homey. Also, set that ole bitch arse MIL strait before it gets worse. Good luck!

I have five. Oldest is a student at GT now. You will freak out at everything until the child can talk and communicate in a simple manner what is causing him distress. You will hover a lot over the crib after you hear a cough , etc.. You will be super alert and strain to hear signs of distress even when the boy is perfectly fine.

By the 3rd child you will ignore 90% of the stuff you worried yourself sick over for the first. My last two could cry their arse off and I would check their temp and if it was good it was no big deal. No freaking out. Just try to comfort them until they calmed down.

Well, this morning my wife gave birth to a beautiful baby boy. This is what I have learned so far.
1. Wow, my wife is one tough cookie. I knew she was strong but I had no idea she was this strong. Not only because of the birth, but just dealing with the exhaustion with such poise. Im wiped but she is still going strong.
2. My mother-in-law is more of a pain in the arse than I thought. She is already trying to take control. Her true self came out today.
3. I’m not gonna be able to sleep well for a long time. Im checking him every minute looking for whatever danger I have in my head.
4. I dont know a damn thing about babies. I thought I did but im asking questions like I am taking a class three levels above me. I really feel stupid.
5. Having a child is the most unique experience I have ever had. Part excitement, exhaustion, fear, joy, pride, and anxiety. But I wouldn’t trade the experience for anything in the whole world.

Tell your MIL to shut the hell up. If not it will only get worse trust me brother

I have a coworker who is expecting his third boy. The other two are currently a year old and two years old.

Don't be that guy.

Keep them in their own bed. I know so many people who let their kids start sleeping in their bed as babies and now they don't want to sleep in their own room. I have a 3 year old and a 9 month old and neither one has spent a single night in my wife and I's bed

Let her be. You and your wife are going to need her help in the future. She does know more about babies and stuff. Let your wife handle her mother.

It will come. Don’t be afraid. Babies are tough, too.

Congratulations, baw. It’s going to be a lot of work. There will be times when you want to throw the boy and the wife through a window. Just remember, each phase only lasts a short while. The Darius Rucker song “It won’t be like this for long” sums up this experience perfectly. Enjoy the ride. #blessed

This is exactly how I felt when my first child was born. The moment he entered the world, tears materialized from nowhere and I had a feeling I had never had before. Children will try your patience and break your heart but it’s all part of the deal. They are a gift from God. Treasure every moment because they will be grown and gone before you know it.

Congrats man. It’s the absolute best. All the cliched bullshite about it flying by is absolutely true. I was in your position what seems like last week. Now my little guy is starting kindergarten soon and our third is already scooting around.

Welcome to paternal instincts. It’s like your baseline levels of stress hormones rise a few levels and never return to what they were when life was more carefree.

Don't try and be extra quiet so you don't wake him. Just do your normal routine when he is sleeping. This gets him used to hearing a little noise while he sleeps.

The next time your MIL snipes at your wife, explain to her immediately, that this is a stressful time for all of you and that you don't want to sit her in the corner but you will if she takes another bite out of your wife.

So did your wife shite herself during labor? I watched as shite came out one hole and my son came out the other hole simultaneously.

Also, I would recommend getting this little device that you clip to their diaper and pressed against their belly as they sleep. If the baby stops breathing for whatever reason, the device has an alarm that goes off. We got that bad boy about 3 weeks in and very little sleep. After that we slept much better due to being more at ease. It definitely worked, too, because one time it fell off and immediately the alarm went off. That was a panic inducing moment for sure.

Congratulations! It looks like most of the OT topics are covered (pics, who's the dad, had sex, etc) so I'll ask it:

what travel ball team is he on?

Have a beer and get some sleep dude.

There is a suprising amount of very authentic and reasonable responses to the OP, what has the OT come to these days?

Tons I agree with... and just remember those that claim that their house is perfect is full of CRAP. Parenthood is HARD, esp at beginning, but by caring you are way ahead of the curve.

Congrats and many blessings to you and the family. Hang in there early on, the cliche is true, it gets better...

How do you know it’s a boy? Did he already tell you that’s the gender he feels like?

You also need to ask the wife immediately, and often, what her plans are for losing the extra weight.

ETA: I see a heavy mom rolled in and downvoted me. Pics of hams?
