I've taken the dream job route, I could have always made more money. Security would be nice though. Hoping the collection of jobs I've had by 50 allows me to chase more money and stay in the dream job world. At least for ten years.

$50K if I didn't have kids. But at this point, not a penny less than my current salary.

Room and board, if I could be something like a lighthouse keeper or forest fire lookout, and go months without seeing another person.

"Most" people style of living changes with the amount of money they are making. If you are making say 100k now and living fairly well it would be difficult to take even 80k for a "dream job" because you'd have to cut things out for you and your family.

IMO you work to be able to enjoy yourself and although money isn't everything it does make things easier and often more fun for the family.

And like someone pointed out...a job is still a job. No matter how much you love it, having to do it for 30 years you're not going to love it so much

Doesn't most people's dream job pay more? .
I thought that's how it worked.

Or am I just a greedy son of bitch because my dream job makes a ton of money in my respective field.

I'm in the minority here, but I'd take a pay cut in order to achieve my dreams. A job that you hate will suck the life out of you, no matter how large the salary, and life isn't meant to be lived that way.

40K if I'm single with no kids. I already have my dream job, am single, and make more than that.

If I ever get married and start a family, things are going to have to change to justify the long hours during certain parts of the year, but I'm already in the process of setting myself up to be very financially stable and still be able to do what I want with a wife and kids, so I should be good to go... Some bitch is going to hit the jackpot one of these days.

after you have worked for 20 years. There is no such thing as a dream job. It doesn't matter. Some days you just don't want to go. Could have had a bad day and don't want to wake up.

Dream job is an oxymoron.

well my dream job would involve me owning my own business, so I would take a pretty good hit, say $35k or something like that for a year or 2 knowing that if my business was successful that it would pay off later

This guy gets it. Money is not everything. Money does not make you happy. You adapt your lifestyle to whatever amount of money you make. You can live a great (happy) life making $30K a year if you have the right attitude and direction.

That Harvard study that says Louisiana is one of the happiest states in the US...I guarantee you that wasn't based upon income per capita. I have doubts about that survey, but I also know those Harvard cats are a lot smarter than I am.

I must be the exception cause I've been both and I'm much happier with money than broke

I just took a pay cut to go into what I really enjoy, which is coaching and teaching.
Couldn't be happier about it tbh

Tell me how my wife would handle it first. No sense in jumping out of the frying pan into the fire.
