When Liberty was founded by Jerry Falwell it was on the same level as Bob Jones University (BJU ). Since then it has moderated just enough to be SACS accredited. Still has a reputation for being extremist, however.

There are much better universities, and yes, it will carry a stigma. Even among some conservatives.

Why go to Liberty when you could attend W&L, William and Mary, UVa, or Hampden Sydney?

As a Virginian, I find the overt religiosity strange.

I graduated from LU in 1991. Went there on an Army ROTC scholarship. My oldest son earned a BA and a graduate degree from there. It does not hide what it is. It is a conservative, evangelical Christian university. Despite what the board may say, it is actually a very good school.

Lynchburg is not a cool town. I’m from there.

OP, If you’re getting an online degree, fine. But if you’re going on campus, prepare to be hit with extreme restrictions... like not being able to see R rated movies, strict dress codes, PDA restrictions, etc.

Arkansas State employs at least one professor who earned his Ed.D. from Liberty.

I've looked into their doctorate programs and would at least consider.

Guy I know just finished his degree from LU during his last year with the marines. He did an internship with Amazon web services (cloud computing government contracts) in northern Virginia and got a job immediately after internship ended.

I'm not in Virginia. It'll all be online.

It's somewhat cheap, 8 week classes, and they transferred a lot of my military education in.

It's not like many of the students going to Liberty have the option of attending the other schools. The middle 50% of ACT and SAT scores at the other schools are much higher than at Liberty--the 75th percentile at Liberty wouldn't even be in the 25th percentile at the others.

Liberty 20-27; 1020-1220
UVA 31-34; 1320-1500
WM 29-33; 1300-1480
WL 31-33; 1350-1440
