I'm planning on finishing up my degree there (they are very military friendly), but I'm seeing some negative things online due to the school being ultra-conservative and their religious views are kind of out there?

Ever heard of someone not getting a job due to the views of their university?

I would think the stigma would outweigh any military friendliness benefits.

I look at hundreds of resumes a year and have never seen a single one with Liberty University on it. Not sure if that helps.

I know a few people with graduate degrees from there, and all are well-respected and more than competent in their respective fields. I believe all but one did it on campus, though I know they offer online programs.

Good schools are known by their best dept.

Liberty has a good theology dept.

They are not any further out than any God fearing church school.

Do people from Oral Roberts have issues finding jobs?

I don't really care where my degree is from as long as the degree is legit and I don't have an issue getting employed after I retire.

It has a record of making most of its money off of online courses, many of which students say lack substance.

They like that government $$$ too. Despite being conservative, they suck up federal money at a rate that would make Grambling blush.

NY Times and Pro Publica recently published a lengthy and interesting report.

It's "the second-largest provider of online education in the United States, according to The Chronicle of Higher Education, its student population surpassed only by that of University of Phoenix."

quote:

By 2017, Liberty students were receiving more than $772 million in total aid from the U.S. Department of Education — nearly $100 million of it in the form of Pell grants and the rest in federal student loans. Among universities nationwide, it ranked sixth in federal aid. Liberty students also received Department of Veterans Affairs benefits, some $42 million in 2016, the most recent year for which figures are available. Although some of that money went to textbooks and nontuition expenses, a vast majority of Liberty’s total revenue that year, which was just above $1 billion, came from taxpayer-funded sources.

They do like military: They put hella pressure on recruiters/phone-workers, but "A separate division of about 60 people focuses on courting members of the military, who have access to even greater federal tuition assistance, and then advising them on campus."

The article has a number of quotes from students about the quality of the classes. Worth a read before enrolling.

I always stay away from hiring anyone with ties to Liberty University. I know too many people that have matriculated there. Their views are extreme.

My wife has a degree from Oral. Unfortunately she’s a stay at home mom so she doesn’t get to use it.

Having viewed more resumes than I care to recount, it would not disturb me at all.

A lot depends on the field you are pursuing.

Liberty has advanced its standing over the past decade.

What a weird change has occurred in less than 20 years. It used to be one might worry about being hired after matriculating from a party school.

Now?

I had an employee who graduated from there... worst worker I've ever worked with. This probably don't help, but she was just the fricking worst.
