I just turned 40. I have 2 boys. A 9 year old and 4 year old. I hate my job. My marriage is not what it used to be, but we both love our kids more than life itself. My main purpose is to raise 2 well adjusted kids that are better people than me. I hope that we have a better relationship than I do with my father and know that I would do anything for them.

That is way more than I would normally share and much more serious than I like to be on the internet. I promise it won’t happen again.

I have 3 purposes.

Raise kids smart enough to adapt to whatever and good enough to change the world for the better- youngest is 18 mos, so I get to keep doing it for a while

Make enough money to support those that depend on me

Make enough money beyond that to either help other people monetarily or to buy myself free time to give to others.

I don't do much for myself these days. Life seems better that way.

I hope you and the wife can rekindle the old feelings, baw. I hate to hear about people in loveless, unwanted, or toxic relationships. I hope yours does not fall under any of those categories.

Well if you are a Christian I would suggest you reading Ecclesiastes (sp?). Thats what the entire book is about.

Very true... if you are serious about finding out the answer to your question, it’s right there in Ecclesiastes. Given by God and written by the wisest man (besides Jesus himself) to ever walk the planet. If you want to find worth and purpose, then start by fearing God and humbling yourself Before him.

Ecclesiastes 12:13-14 King James Version (KJV)

13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.

14 For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.

IMHO-Our main “purpose” is to live a meaningful life. Pursue truth, practice acceptance, compassion, forgiveness, love. Bring light unto the world however you can. Be virtuous and ethical. Serve as an example in your words and deeds. Make everything you touch better.

Once my kids are out of the house and on their own I'll be doing a lot of fishing and beer drinking. I do plenty of that now, but it's going to get ridiculous once they're out of the house.
