Never been operational. I think there’s been half a dozen demos but that’s it. Still a good looking jet thought.
Give me the a plain ol F-16 Viper (Thunderbirds)

Glad to see fellow F4 Phantom fanboys in the thread. So many awesome mil jets over the years it's hard to choose, but the F4 to me is just a loud, audacious bad arse sexy machine. USMC flown of course.

I’ve always been partial to the Korean War veteran F-86 Sabre
maybe b/c the book “Sabre Jet Ace” was one of the first books I recall reading on military history as a kid.
More than few of NASA astronauts flew combat missions in F-86s during the Korean War - John Glenn, Gus Grissom, Buzz Aldrin - Neil Armstrong also flew combat missions but not in the F-86.

I love the F/A-18 from my time in the Corps (geaux VMFA-314). But, as much as I HATE to say it, the Su-27 has to be the sexiest military jet out there.
But, if I had to pick one, it's the old reliable F-4 Phantom!!!!!

Too bad we lost this one off of Guam in 2008.
CSB, I was the Radar Navigator on this jet when that picture was taken.

Always loved the blue collar jets like the F4, the Intruder/Prowler, and the A-10.

Wrong. B-1A, which Carter killed, would have been able to go Mach 2.2. B-1B, the bomber we actually got, only does Mach 1.2.

At tos point in my journey, I cannot choose just one, so:
* P-51 - the classic prop fighter
* F-86 - just something about the first sweep wing jet
* X-1 - first through the sound barrier
* F-14 - the Flex-wing (and maybe Top Gun) just push the button
* Tribute to 3 that saved my little arse more times than I can count in Vietnam
** Puff the Magic Dragon (C-130 gunship)
** A-4 - an ugly little delta wing, but great manureabilty for close air support
** F-4 - more firepower & time on station
Topic is Jets, so will not mention the rotorcraft

I'm biased, but...
And the AF plans to keep the B-52s until at least 2050, so it is being upgraded with an AESA radar, new engines, advanced communications systems, and will carry all of the hypersonic missiles that are either already in development or are planned, plus the new nuclear cruise missile that right now only has the program name "Long Range Standoff" (LRSO) missile.

If I'm a terrorist and hear that A-10 fire, I'm just shooting my self first. I can't imagine the fear that thing invokes.

Favorite plane since I was a kid.
Hi Joe had the coolest shite. The Cobra Raven looked like the SR-71. Their first Joe hey modeled after the Tomcat.

Thank you for this thread!! As the daughter of a proud retired USAF fighter pilot (26 years), I have truly enjoyed it. I'm unapologetically a USA-lovin patriot, can't possibly imagine not being this way!
Always been partial to the F4. Dad flew this one in his early career (Vietnam Era)
He also flew: F15 (Iceland), T-38, and AWACS (Desert Storm)
Couldn't be prouder of him

I was at an airshow in Pendleton, Oregon back in the mid-seventies and two F-4 Phantoms from Sand Point Idaho did a fly by. You could see the smoke before you could see them. They came screaming down the flight line, on the deck at just under the speed of sound. You did not hear anything until they were right in front and the sound was like an explosion. Right in front of the crowd one pulled to the vertical and did aileron rolls till he was too high to see. They joined up for another pass and then they were gone. They were huge and they were loud and they were fast. Anyone who was there that day would tell you that the F-4 is the shite.

I know the topic is Military Jets and for me, it is a toss-up between the F-18 Hornet and the F-14 tomcat. Both are extremely capable and sexy looking Jets.
But my favorite fighter aircraft of all time has to be the Vought F4U Corsair. It struck terror into the Japanese pilots that had to engage it in combat and Hell anything Pappy Boyington flew had to be good. LOL
