Latest fad.
Probably something that got popular because of social media. The sheep will flock to just about anything that gets popular there. Social media convinced people to eat godamned clothes detergent for a while.

It's the pink ones that started it. Some woman thing called "Galentine's Day" instead of Valentines.

They were known for their thermos.

They started making a tumbler type cup that was made popular by Yeti, a company known for their tumblers.

They're the elite form of drinking ice water at the moment. The 40 oz tumbler with a handle fits nicely in the cup holder which puts it above the Yeti and Hydroflask.

I saw a dumbass Facebook mom selling knockoff Stanley Starbucks collab cups for $45 fricking dollars
Fake cups and people were asking her about them

They decided to pay a bunch of mom "influencers" to push them.

I bought my wife one almost two years ago. They're pretty great. The handle is nice since you don't have to buy that attachment like other brands.
Marginally cheaper than Yeti. Comes with a straw which is great.
But yes, this fad of having a specific drinking up is extremely weird, although I do think it's a solid product.

I’m pretty sure she bought cheap off brand cups and painted them in the Starbucks collab style

The person in charge of this "fad" is Terence Reilly. Terence Reilly is the president of Stanley and was put in that position in 2020 when the company had $70mm in sales. He used to be the chief marketing office for Crocs and turned that company into what it is today. If he can make people want an ugly pair of sandals then he can promote a water bottle.
For what it's worth, they went from $70mm in sales to $750mm in sales within 4 years.

They apparently hired some marketing guy from Crocs that helped Crocs recent resurgence.

I read somewhere someone got into a bad wreck and the Stanley cup survived. Stanley bought car owner a new car and then this kicked off. True? Idk. I didn’t care enough to research.

quote:Quencher was out in 2016, but Stanley mainly just had it as a Yeti alternative. Some online women's buying guide picked one up for their 'cup challenge' in 2019 or 2020 and the Stanley was the top performer, but wasn't fun or marketing to 25-50 yr old women. This group worked with Stanley and basically started doing affiliate marketing and pushing for it to be targeted to women 18-50 as an accessory. FOMO kicks in once influencers start flashing them on social media and wham bam a line that was almost dead is now a must have.

At first I thought it was the same Stanley that makes the tools.
