What is with people buying up all of the toilet paper?

Can anyone explain this bizarre occurrence? Costco, Sams, Walgreens are all selling out of toilet paper and paper towels everywhere. It has become an internet meme.
I can understand runs on hand sanitizer and the like. But Toilet Paper?
To my knowledge, this thing doesn't even cause severe bowel issues...just upper respiratory.
So why are all of the karens buying up all the TP?

My advice, don't go to Costco today. BR location is what I'm referring to, but probably most of them by now.

Costco was fricking ridiculous today. Looked like a Cat 5 storm was about to come up the mouth of the river. They were regulating how much water and toilet paper you could buy.

I went to three different places on Monday looking for toilet paper. Couldn’t find any. Placed an order with amazon due to arrive Saturday. Going to be a photo finish at our place

I think the thought process is in case of a quarantine they will have all the TP they need? Maybe expecting a paper shortage if all the paper is used for Kleenex? Idk

They are used from getting explosive shits from drinking corona beer that they associate the problem with corona virus.

It probably happened at one store that had nothing to do with the virus. Someone snapped a picture and posted it to to the internet highly exaggerating that toilet paper is gone everywhere due to the virus. People see it and retweet. Millions then see it, believe everything they see on the internet, and begin panicking thinking the world is going to end, then run to the store to buy the rest of the TP.

I get buying a few weeks to a months worth of supplies, but going crazy with it is well.... crazy.
