Yes I misunderstood your now edited post. Still, having Lafourche as the #1 top parish on your list disqualifies any future lists you may contribute.

It sure was before it was overrun with Yats and transplanted Yankees.

I grew up in Tensas Parish, graduated from Newellton in 75, lots less people and industry now, was a great place back then

East Carroll is by far the most depressing place I’ve been around. Madison parish is pretty bad as well.
That's insane that almost half of the population lives below the poverty level. The federal poverty line is like 20k for a family of 4.

Lincoln Parish 30.4
That has to be counting all the college students with little or no income. No way Lincoln is one of the poorest parishes in yhe state.

I've honestly never heard of this.

Tensas has money, it's just highly concentrated. Right up the road from Waterproof is a farm equipment dealer with at least 15 million in inventory sitting on the lot.
That is my cousin’s business.

I get the feeling those areas around there have a few rich people, a lot of poor people and not much of a healthy middle class.

By percentage of people below the poverty level.
East Carroll Parish 48

To be honest I'd have to say St. Helena.
All the concrete in state probably came out of the rock pits in St. Helena, so at least throw it a bone.

You are correct and it's embarrassing how awful NE La is and unfortunately there's no reason to think it'll change. Besides the sweet tater plant in Delhi and the manufacturing plants in Monroe/West Monroe, what else is there? Driving through Lake Providence and Tallulah is more depressing than going thru Bastrop

I used to cover Tensas Parish for my job, and went up there quite a bit. I think there are more people in my subdivision than the entire parish. Lots of ducks in the winter time, though. I had a late relative who had a place at Winter Quarters, but never go to hunt or fish there before he died. :(

Minus the transplants it’s Livingston.
It’s crazy. Even people who seem relatively normal, as you get to know them better, they will have something fricked up about them.
If you go somewhere and there is a group of people... some from EBR, some from Ascension, some from WBR... Some from Livingston.. At some point you will be able to tell which ones are from LP.

Lmao. Tensas is probably the best parish in LA.
Now, if you wear skinny jeans and require biweekly sushi and wine outings....probably not for you. But if you participate in manly sporting and outdoors activities, it's the place to be. I'll take it, myself.

I think most of that is just stereotypes from the 80s when it was very rural and redneck. I didn't grow up in Livingston but lived there for 7 years. Watson, Denham and Walker are just normal suburbs now.
You typically have to get out in the rural areas to find the LP stereotypes now. Otherwise it's mostly BR people that moved out there for the schools.

I’ve never actually met anyone from LP but I’ve read about its origin and it’s pretty interesting

Give Morehouse Parish another 5 years, it’ll be in that group.
Bastrop is hell on earth now and headed south from there. There are still enough comfortable retirees out in the Parish to maintain a tax base but their kids are gone or going. Mer Rouge and Oak Ridge are nothing like Bastrop though.

I grew up in Central but maybe 5 miles from LP. There was some truth to the stereotypes 30 years ago. It started changing with the white flight from BR after Judge Parker's ruling although you can definitely find yourself in Deliverance country if you drive far enough out

True, you have enough old money and farmers that will keep Mer Rouge and Oak Ridge from going over the edge like Bastrop. I am afraid Bastrop is a lost cause. I honestly wonder if Jeff Simmons ever thinks about unplugging from there?
