Slack just added the option for your profile:

What are your pronouns?

saw the first instance of this in an email from Dell.
Ashley (She/Her).

For frick sake, I’ve never seen so many adults act so childish about things that absolutely have no impact on their lives. Whining about what someone else does in their fricking email signature? Jesus
I’m not whining, I’m trying to understand the rational. I’m not in a work environment where this is an issue, but it’s clearly a trend in many places.
Is my initial reaction to think it’s silly and pointless, yes it is.

I usually don't do the grammar police thing, because I sure as hell make my share of mistakes. But for some reason when I see them in the subject title, it bugs the hell out of me.
Fair enough, that was bad

"Whining about ......" : It's not just a matter of what someone else does with their emails, it's when companies, universities, etc etc etc make it mandatory to respond in such a woke manner. Or when that "someone" screams back at you, as in "HOW DARE YOU .......". That's the problem & that context is getting worse & worse. I am not purposedly hurting anyone's feelings, if a name is gender questionable, I will respond as I see it. If that bothers them, that is their problem, not mine. Again, this involves less than one percent of the country's population. I am not changing a lifetime's way of communicating because of hurt feelings for that few number of people.

As long as I am not forced to put them in my signature, I will tolerate it.

I know this is mostly because of trans issues, but having pronouns on some names is actually quite helpful. The main sales guy at my company is a British dude who played rugby named Ashley. I’m sure he’s glad that no one is calling him Miss on emails anymore.
Also helpful on Asian names as we clearly don’t know the gender if they don’t have adopted American names (Ricky, Tammy, etc)
I realize that my examples make up 10-15 percent of the cases at most.

The thing is sane people don’t get upset when that is wrong on an email. I have a name that can be used by both sexes and never been a major problem for me.

I got the corporate email about this crap two weeks ago. They put in a few subtle changes to other styling elements of the signature block and said they were doing it for consistency. Yeah, right. I left out the pronouns. Will see how long that lasts.
The whole thing is stupid because trannys change their name anyway. Hell, that's the first thing they change since everything else requires major surgery. Like someone is going to get hormone treatments, breast implants, facial reconstruction surgery and their dick chopped off and still go by the name Bill or Mike.

Its more than that though. My little brother is at Alabama and they strongly encourage all students to list their pronouns during Zoom streams. More catering to a tiny, but needy, percentage of the population

I’d sooner quit that job than partake in that waste of time nonsense.
My company is liberal as frick but the pay and benefits are out of this world so I will happily work for them and vote conservatively at the polls. Part of being an adult is doing what’s best for your family. Your career is not the place to allow political differences to surface. Nothing about my job or company prevents me from being a conservative.

Oh of course. I’m sure once the Ashley in sales came to the US he was called ma’am or miss on emails and cold calls for decades.
My name will never be considered a woman’s name but will mostly just leave people completely unsure as it’s just not familiar at all in the English-speaking world.
I have never used pronouns, but I remember 15 years ago my dad suggesting I use pronouns on my resume to show that I’m male (to increase the chance I get a callback in case the hiring manager wanted to avoid hiring women for pregnancy down the line). And I can guarantee trans rights was just about the furthest thing from his mind.

I propose replacing pronouns with adjectives in the signature.
Adjective: Hungry
It just seems more relatable.

I should have been born in the 1950s and out of the workforce by now. I think I'd quit my job over this becoming mandatory.
