Alan Shepherd, first US astronaut to orbit the earth. We watched it on a closed-circuit TV in elementary school.

I remember when President Reagan was shot. I was in kindergarten. I ran out of the living room where I was watching cartoons to tell my mom in the kitchen that the president has been shot.

She was pissed they interrupted children’s cartoons with such morbid news

Walter Cronkite giving us the news on the Vietnam War. I guess I was around 5. Also remember the MLK funeral......going on and on and on.

Challenger. I was 5, in Kindergarten. Watched it live. It was heavily viewed in school due to the teacher on board. I guess the rest of the teachers were excited, one of them was finally doing something cool.

I remember watching a state funeral procession on my grandparents’ TV when I was very young, and it was probably J. Edgar Hoover’s in May 1972.

My 4th birthday was a couple months after that.

That was the Rault Center fire in 1972. Several women jumped from the window of a beauty parlor on the upper floors and only one survived the fall.

Damn, that was it. The scene of those people jumping has never left me.
