Reagan being shot. I was riding my bike with my pals... walked in the house, and my mom was crying while watching the TV.

I also remember Sadat being assassinated. He seemed like a genuinely good man willing to have peace with Israel. His assassination was shocking to me even as a kid (I was 12).

ETA: Forgot about Elvis dying in 77... I definitely remember that.

I was 9 when this happened. My family followed it closely because our relatives were among the hostages.

That baby being abducted from her home in Florida in 97. The parents left the garage open or something and baby was missing from crib.

For some reason that stuck out because after that I was always terrified of leaving a window or door open at night on accident even though the parents likely caused her disappearance

I remember Elvis dying really clearly. I was 5 years old when it happened. In Baton Rouge they activated the emergency broadcast system to announce it. When I heard it I walked through the house to tell my mom. She was at the washing machine. When I told her, she immediately started crying.

You were also oblivious to the fact that LSU lost in the final four that weekend. I was a student at LSU at the time. I had flown home from Philly was was driving from MSY to BR when I heard about Reagan on the radio. Not a good weekend to say the least.

Same for me. I think I recall Dan Rather announcing it.

I remember Reagan waving to the crowd outside the hospital window, probably the earliest news event I can remember the context of. I guess my parents didn't tell me about it/let me watch the news until it looked like he might make it. I probably saw a clip replayed after they were sure he would be ok.

I do remember Jimmy Carter being on TV at a day care and telling everyone that was President Carter and my daddy didn't like him very much.
