Y'all remember the tornado that hit Napoleonville a few years back? I was about a quarter mile from it. I was outside having a smoke, when I looked over to a coworker and said " that looks like a tornado forming."
Sure enough, it came down and touched, started pulling all the air around us violently, sounding like a freight train. Booked it inside and huddled in the middle of the building, not knowing which way it was gonna go. Building was shaking like a cat 4 hurricane was bearing down on us. Luckily the tornado (which was an EF2) headed away from us.... The shear power of that thing. Ill never forget it.

Gustav was most intense for me. I had to work at local plant to ride the storm out. 100 mph wind gusts at peak.

Katrina was not that bad for me

Was in the Harvest, Alabama area on 04-27-11, during the massive tornado outbreak. An absolute war zone.

Microburst during a South Carolina baseball game. I was hiding out in a car.

That was scary.

For me: Andrew on teh Westbank

For my Dad: frick pick one: Camille/Betsy in Plaquemines parish. Opal on a rig off Main Pass. Stayed at the house on the Westbank during Katrina and when he finally got to Shreveport (where we were) it looked like he saw ghosts.

That was terrifying. Left my house and it was overcast. Literally one minute later at LSU it’s midnight and rain was blowing sideways. Was completely soaked once I got into CEBA, and the damn windows next to my office we’re shaking.

In 2006 I was briefly in Vietnam during monsoon season. I've never seen anything like that. In one particularly bad day we got over a foot of rain with damn near felt like 100% humidity at 90 degrees.

On the spillway when an intense storm developed. Tried to race for the landing but the lightening and hail were too bad. Ended up seeking shelter with another boat's occupants on a pumping station. After a few minutes someone suggested sheltering on a huge rusty steel platform during a lightening storm might turn out bad. None of us died.

It's a tie between these two for me...

New Year's day in 2016, driving from Mobile back to BR. Hardest rain I have ever seen. I could not see more than 10 feet in front of me. I think I drove 40 the whole way home. Never let up until right before BR.

Driving through a snowstorm last year from Vermont to Boston. I've driven in snow enough to be confident, but this was insane. It fell fast and was wet because it was in early December. Saw 4 total wrecks, including a guy ping pong between the guard rails 4 cars in front of me and go into a ditch. Watched another car flip over a guard rail trying to get on the interstate. Two times I had a big truck cut me off and splash slush all over the windshield, completely covering it. Thankfully the car I was in had automatic wipers.

It was like a scene from an action movie, we were very lucky to make it through without a scratch. I definitely earned all the beer I drank that night.

Fredrick in 79 I believe in Biloxi. Rita here in 06. Driving back from Colorado ski trip coming thru Childress Tx., catch a line of thunderstorms and it starts to hail. Was listening to a cd book and turned on the local FM and tornado warnings everwhere. It was right at dark and starts raining so hard you couldn't see the road. I keep driving, everybody else was either pulled over or parked under a canopy. My wife says pull over and I think it would be harder for a tornado to hit a moving target. Pretty intense for about 15 minutes.

Truckin along i80 in Indiana this past February and suddenly a light snow turned into a whiteout. Couldn't see 3' in front of the hood of my truck and there were cars wrecking everywhere. Thankfully the trucks behind me had their radios on and I became the pied piper leading people through for about 5 miles.

For sure and aboard ship in the North Atlantic. No fear of sinking, but it tossed us around pretty good.

Driving into Flagstaff, AZ, in April 2014, from Amarillo, TX. It had been sunny since mid-morning. About 10 minutes outside of Flagstaff I got hit by a blizzard with giant wet snowfall and limited visibility. Pulled into my hotel parking lot about 15 minutes later and it was sunny and about 65 degrees.

2016 Flood

Watching people walk down Florida Blvd with water rushing over like a river with suit cases over their heads. People holding onto their kids so they wouldn't get swept away in the current. Crazy shite

10/29/09. F-2 tornado hits my building downtown Shreveport. I was on the 6th floor so the pressure change was unreal. Looking NE as tornado hit from SW. Watching debris arc around us. Windows flexing so much that the blinds looked like they were swinging. Did hear the train sound.

4/14/18. High end F-1 (110mph winds) hits my house. Thought the tornado would miss us. It didn’t. From the inside out looked a lot like the 2009 tornado. I was too slow to get the kids out of bed. I knew that a 1 or 2 wouldn’t significantly damage the house. But a trampoline from who knows where missed my son’s bedroom window by a few feet. Lesson learned.

The rain during Katrina was sideways and suspended in air.

Never seen anything like it before or since.
