S. La. It seems like mosquitos are really only annoying at dusk in my experience. My dad said the worst he had ever encountered were in the arctic circle believe it or not

Horseflies - walk backward at a moderate pace. They will attack right at hand wacking height. (If you are coordinated enough to walk backwards).

True, but my favorite is bringing a tennis racket with me. They have no chance.

My answer for most annoying is wasps. Hate them.

Very avid hiker and kayaker here and deerflies are the worst. Also called yellow flies in other parts of the country. Learned a few lessons over the years. They are attracted to the color blue and very attracted to mirrors which is why you always see them around your vehicle side mirrors. Don't wear blue clothing or mirrored sunglasses.
This solution looks a bit nuts but it works. We attach these to our kayaks

Mosquitos no doubt. Gnats suck, spiders can annoy, and roaches are the disgusting spawn of satan, but mosquitoes are the worst.

I've posted this before so forgive the redundancy.

MOST of the time people get chiggers in dry ditches and roadbanks just before they go into the woods. Or coming out of the woods. Same for ticks. Open sandy fields with partial shade and high weeds can also be a killer.

But when you are hunting and leaving your truck to get in the woods, its really important to get through those initial roadside weeds quickly in the early fall. I seriously haven't had a tick or chigger on me since I realized this.

The only answer is no see'ums. Place I like to vacation at had them and they are a million times worse than mosquitos. I have yet found any bug spray that works on them. I would imagine they'd be on the top of the Louisiana shite list.

No see-ems for sure. We have them in Western NC and I cant even wear shorts in the summer or I’ll get eaten alive by them. Their you have deal with the bites for multiple weeks at a time

Most annoying for me is what I call “Eye Gnats” in the Ozarks. They don’t bite, but incessantly try to get in your eyes by the dozen.

In lower Alabama and northwest Florida nothing is worse than the dreaded yellow fly. Mostly a spring and early summer scourge. First you hurt then you itch and if you get bit enough you can run a fever. We have them in southeastern Louisiana but not nearly as thick as east of here. In the Louisiana marsh gnats will drive you off the water in the spring in particular. Hate em both. I can live with skeeters but yellow flies and biting marsh gnats are the devil’s own spawn.

Worst for me these past couple of years has been some kind of Orange Paper Wasp. Slightly larger than red wasps, but as ornery as a hornet off his meds. Also strangely few affects from wasp spray.
