And the people going slow to the left are inconsiderate. I consider other people’s predictable inconsideration in my consideration. I also consider myself. I also consider the inefficiency of constantly changing speeds and the unsafety of excess weaving. It’s weird to say “be considerate” and also “follow this rule blindly’. I understand the left is for passing. Consideration is where I know it isn’t always that simple

You're passing a truck on the right. Ahead of the truck you pass is another truck .25 miles ahead you're going 3-4 MPH faster than. Instead of getting over to the right and then passing the truck when you catch up, you just stay in the left lane blocking 4 cars going faster than you

Assume the vehicle does get over. Then there is a good possibility that one of the 4 cars still in the left lane is going to slow down because their phone rings/dings, they need to turn around and yell at a kid, or the great unknown- slowdown when they get to an over pass. Now I’m stuck behind the slower truck and the stupid idiot who slowed down for God knows what reason. Humanity has gone to hell and it’s a dog-eat-dog world. You’re such a bad arse, gun it and pass em on the right.

People squat in the left lane to text on their phones. The good news (oddly) is that the far right lane is clear to use.

and for those people I will not get over even when I can. Why? Because I can’t predict their action and if I attempt to change lanes they could hit me if they decide to pass on the right. Safer to maintain my speed and let them take action/change lanes.

Signal your intention to get over while passing and people will stop driving “erratically” behind you

You can what if it to death. If you aren't passing, get to the right. It is pretty simple. Yes, sometimes you get screwed doing the right thing. That doesn't negate that it is the right thing.

The OP asked for the logic. It wasn’t a moral question.

In my 37 years of driving, 30 of it commuting into Atlanta (ITP), this is not my experience with people in trucks bigger than an F150 or anyone driving a Dodge, Infiniti, or Nissan. I always signal my intent and have been “cutoff” from getting over many times. Now I just let them go and pass as they want. If they act too erratic I will slow down and stay side by side with the guy to the right. frick them.

Considering your consideration, I consider your consideration considerating. Considerations all around.

Assuming the people in the right lane were going the speed limit, and the passer was going 3-4 mph faster than the speed limit, they have every right to pass those cars. So what if you have to slow down to "only 3-4 mph above the speed limit"? Who gave you the right to drive 15 mph above the speed limit unimpeded? It's not your God-given right to drive as fast as you want.

He changed it from a logic question to a philosophical question before I entered the chat. Even considering it logically, there is no logical explanation for driving in the left lane. It is for passing only.

Sure it is, since God gave us free will. It's not your right to decide which laws have higher priority. The law says no driving in the left lane. Same thing as speeding regardless of the amount over the speed limit.

Why won't these people just get over?

Because almost everyone thinks they are the most important person on the road. Its why people pull out in front of you. It's why they cut you off changing lanes. Whatever they have going on is more important than you or your safety.

It’s also why people drive way over the speed limit passing everyone to the right, whatever they have going on they think is more important than you and your safety.

Wrong.

The law says "use the left lane to pass slower moving vehicles". That is exactly what the car "only going 3-4 mph above the speed limit" was doing scenario in the OP.

People were never taught how to properly drive. In Germany, the concept of “drive right” is ingrained in their populace at a young age.

It’s also illegal to camp in the left lane if you are the slower moving vehicle.

It’s called a govnah Baw
Lawn crew truck in left hand lane yesterday on 210 doing 50 mph. Calling the owner Monday morning to tell him to train his Jauns better.
