well they did not pertain to your hearsay story and they are both below the mason-dixon...

Your story was amusing.

Racism is everywhere, your is just another tall tale to try to make yourself feel better about the south.

You want to see some real racism and segregation though, go to mexico, japan, etc...

Not anymore.

Did it physically move above the Mason Dixon line?

I never have been up there, but I had a friend who was up in Upper Peninsula of Michigan for work and he said there were Confederate flags all over that whole area.

As a current resident in Upstate NY, can confirm the presence of the Confederate Flag is more common than you would think. Second day up here I saw one inside the Post Office as part of a display of American flags from one of the local fraternal organizations. Rural Maine and NH doesn't surprise me at all.

But gumbo1964, what the hell were you doing up in Berlin NH? Counting moose? Only things up there are a state prison and a closed paper mill.

I see them in rural Oregon quite a bit when I visit and honestly, it’s 50-50 whether or not they’re a white supremacist.

My family is from Guatemala, I don’t care as much as you think. If it was a tale then they lied to me.

I saw a Robert E. Lee statue in Liberia last year when I was helping out at an orphanage.

You sure it was Lee? They'd likely have some statues of American figures, particularly James Monroe, Henry Clay, maybe Lincoln. The nation was founded by Americans after all. Lee would be an odd one, though. Curious.

There’s an old confederate ex-pat community in Brazil where they still have flags flying everywhere

Confederados I think they're called. Confederate expats did end up there. Big celebration every year.

On a somewhat related note: Brazil didnt end plantation slavery until 1888.

It was Lee. I heard they picked it up cheap at a yard sale a while back.

A popular folk song in the southern region of Africa celebrates the CSS Alabama docking in South Africa for a stop during the Civil War. It is performed a lot during Carnival among the traditional African population. (Non white)
