Same!

but I also remember Walter Cronkite reporting on whatever was going on with the Vietnam war but don't recall specifics or dates - whereas I do remember actively watching the Apollo 11 landing

Gulf War

The first news that ever shocked me so much I remember where I was is the Columbine shooting.

Don’t know why, but I remember where I was exactly when I saw that popping up on the tv.

I remember the moon landing pretty vividly. I also remember the constant news about the war in Vietnam.

Vietnam War Death Count on the CBS News every night.

I don't remember watching JFK's death news on TV, but I was two when it happened. I remember watching the 1969 moon landing, but it wasn't the 1st major event I can remember.

I recall Ford doing an address to the nation for some reason.

I recall the hostages being taken in Iran. I also recall being pissed when they interrupted BJ and the Bear to show their return to freedom.

The space shuttle disaster. I went into my mom's room and told her the ship exploded and she told me that was normal. Then she came in the den and saw the tv and started crying.

Bay of pigs invasion/failure. After that we had to take a roll of toilet paper with us to school and learned how to cower under our desk in case we were nuked.
