An HR trainee was interviewed, hired, and then sent for his drug test. Came to work early the next day, HR fired him immediately for a failed test. Had set up his desk & shelves already.

We hired several new employees who were to all start the same day. The first morning was orientation where they were supposed to have benefits explained, fill out a bunch of forms, etc. The Vice President of Human Resources was welcoming the group first thing and one of the new guys lets out a big greasy fart that rattled the windows. The Vice President immediately released the group for a break and fired the guy during the break.

When I hired in to a chemical company out of college they held a retreat for all of the new engineers at a corporate mansion. One poor chump had too much to drink at the welcome party and the next day he fell asleep while the CEO gave his speech. Twice. The CEO was not amused and ordered his firing. I don't think he spent a day at the plant he was hired for.

So, my Dad has an NDT job on the Alaska P/L back in the 70s. They are looking for folks to work the line; no experience necessary.
Gets his BIL a job, all the guy has to do is show up. Company pays airfare to Alaska. Guy takes flight to Canada where he is supposed to board a connecting flight. Gets cold feet and never shows.
So, fired before hired?

Not fired but I was working in a kitchen. We hired a new cook and while he was still in training he got his first check.
Saw how much of his wages were getting garnished for child support. Immediately took off his apron while yelling “frick This, I’ll go back to slinging dope” and walked the frick out.
Laughed my arse off

Same day the guy got hired. On his first shift, he decided to knock off for lunch break about 20 minutes early. Our supervisor found him in an office kicked back asleep. He'd been off the job for an hour and a half. I don't think he was even awake when security escorted him to his car.

I fired someone before lunch.
Sometimes you just know it ain't going to work.

That is typical. Every time I get a child support garnishment I ask them if they are going to roll out. Thry bounce around until they find them

I quit one on the second day. A guttering company for a summer job.
The fricker want me to lay down on the roof, head to the gutter, to check the pitch for drainage.
Told him to frick off and went to work as a groundsman for a tree trimming company.

Ha! I have worked for similar companies. The middle management want to see how the new hires handle their liquor . I have heard of folks not making it past breakfast the next morning.

Worked for a startup telecom provider. CEO hires a new VP. First day CEO tells VP to fire my director. VP does it, CEO fires the VP 3 days later. Craziest thing I’ve ever seen
Our company went bankrupt 6mos later

I saw a new hire (first day on job), cut his forearm with a box knife. Has to get stitches and fails the drug test. He had to pass a drug test to get the job. He was employed for about 6 hours.
